McLaren can swing the blade though, if they can get 200 they are in with a chance.

204/8 constitutes a decent recovery, with Ryan McLaren (future Englishman!) unbeaten on 55*. Two overs to go and maybe 220-ish?

What were the muppets at the ECB thinking, scheduling their showpiece final up against a massive day of action midway through the Olympics and the first day of the Premiership football season?
I suppose it's become slightly overshadowed by the Twenty20 finals day as county cricket's biggest occasion, and I don't think it's been quite the same since they moved it from the traditional early September slot.

Obviously thinking that cricket can compete with football. Proof that they are all retards.
Kent are going to have to bowl brilliantly to win from here, it must be a case of get them out, i cant see essex being restricted to just over 4 an over.
Take what you can off Arafat and Mahmood and punish the rest, i dont think the change bowlers are that good to be honest.

Didn't Essex once get bowled out for 50-odd batting second chasing a low target in one of these finals?

Well played essex... the shit Flower guided them home.
Wouldnt have thought they would win it back at the start of the season though.

Sorry Lever, but thas a disgrace lad. It's akin to a season ticket holder of a lower league football team forgetting they'd made it through to the FA Cup Final. Shocking.
Aint Rob Key a top bloke? None of this stiff upper lip, take it on the chin and smile through it nonsense from our Bob. He was gutted, and you just knew the Lords changing rooms and anything that got in his way was going to get a damn good kicking.

No, fair play.... I am a long distance supporter though so not as 'attached' as I once was. Haven't even seen any build up to the game this week

It just goes to show how low down on the pecking order the one-day knock out final is these days. Not sure what the answer is - with the schedule going to be packed to the rafters with 20/20 games.
Maybe there should be some minor county involvement in the group stages with a knockout competition for the last 16.

Re: PAH!!!! Call yourselves a Cricket Forum??? (Kent v Essex)
It's a shame the minor counties don't get the opportunity to compete with the top sides any more, there was often a shock result in the first round when it was a straight knockout competition. It's like cutting off lower league clubs from playing in the FA Cup for example. And there used to be a Minor Counties select team in the B&H cup as well didn't there? Hard to see how it could work these days, as this is the only 50-over competition and we need to guarantee all the first-class counties more than one game. But it's a part of English cricket tradition that disappeared almost unnoticed with the introduction of Twenty20.

The Lords final hasn't been the same since it wasn't shown on the BBC imo.
