The Boon name so revered in Australian cricket history has been revived with David's son Jack named today among 38 players for an Australian Under-18 talent camp.
The sons of Boon's former Test team mates Craig McDermott and Geoff Marsh will also be invited to attend the five-day camp at the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence in Brisbane from October 6 to 10.
Alister McDermott is a pace bowler like his dad and has a rookie contract with Queensland.
Mitchell Marsh, meanwhile, will seek to join his brother Shaun who is already a member of Australia's one-day side.
The under-18 squad also includes Queensland duo Andrew Tazelaar, a spinner whose father Dirk was a left-arm quick for the Bulls, and allrounder Nicholas Buchanan, son of former national coach John Buchanan.
The nominated players were identified by selectors Geoff Tamblyn, Brian McFadyen, Ray Bright and national chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch, during the national under-17 championships in Melbourne in January.
The camp is part of Australia's preparations for a series against a touring Indian under-18 team in April next year.
"We hope that at camps such as this we can identify some promising young talent and groom them for first-class and hopefully international representation in the future," Cricket Australia's general manager of cricket Michael Brown said today.
The list of players chosen for the camp is: Joel Garrett (SA), Tom Triffitt (TAS), Tom Brinsley (SA), Jack Boon (TAS), Glenn Dawson (SA), Marcus Davies (TAS), Craig Dand (SA), Peter Handscomb (VIC), Aaron Mullins (SA), Nathan Walsh (VIC), Alex Carey (SA), Kane Griffiths (VIC), Kane Richardson (SA), Steven Reid (VIC), Ben Dougall (SA), David Farrell (NSW), Anthony Del Borrello (WA), Josh Hazlewood (NSW), Tom Beaton (WA), Luke Doran (NSW), Mitchell Marsh (WA), Tim Armstrong (NSW), Cameron Balcomb (QLD), Nic Maddinson (NSW), Nicholas Buchanan (QLD), Adam Coyte (NSW), Ryan Meyer (QLD), Rob Edwards (NSW), Michael Johnson (QLD), Timm Van Der Gugten (NSW), Alister McDermott (QLD), Blake Hutchinson (NSW), Andrew Tazelaar (QLD), Ben Bourke (NSW), Michael Granger (QLD), Jordan McLennan (ACT), Hamish Kingston (TAS), Jason Floros (ACT).

Sage. Any word on what the Boon youngster does? Can we assume he's a nuggety batsman.
Man, there's some good genes in that list.

Boonie probably passed a by-law at the TCA Board that gay names could no longer be bestowed upon Tassie boys if you ever wanted them to have any chance of representing your State.

Xavier Herbert the Author was one tough bloke. He used to fight for exercise at the Redlynch pub near Cairns and climb the hill every morning at the back of his house. Something like the bunkered hill in The thin red line which of course was shot up that way.

Indian U-18 team tours Australia also?
Has Indian U-18 squad been announced? This series will take place in April in Australia but in which city?

Once again not an Asian name to be seen. Based on the cricket setup, you'd think that Australia was one of the most un-multicultural countries in the world. Kinda sad that there can be 2 Kane's, but not one Vijay or Mohammad.

I've never read about an U-18 tour of an Indian team to Australia. As usual maybe things will be announced just a month before the team tours there!
Indian media is more obsessed with the senior team because that is what a 'general' fan likes to read about. And since most of the times they criticize the senior players, they HAVE to name alternatives too, hence a little interest on 'A' squads etc. Nobody cares about how the players reach there.

Are there many players from Indian or Pakistani origin playing in Australia?
The simple fact that the cultural difference in Australia and India is so huge, quite evident by the Sydney racial row this year, it seems that Australians and Asians don't even mix with each other there.
Richard Cranium.
Is he from Asia?

Ok.
Now did you people know that China will have its cricket team very soon in the competitions, at least for associate members?

People born in the 4 cricket playing nations of Asia make up 1.2% of the Australian population. And I can already think of 2 just of the top of my head who are involved in Australian state teams and have represented Australia at age group level.
Take your uninformed toxic bile elsewhere please.

well put PJ...mudge seems to upped his 'contribs ' to being toxic outflow...
wander off to any park cricket or district cricket (equiv to CC 2nd div) in any capital and you will see players from all nations playing...only a matter of time before a kid of Somali extraction plays for a state team and is line for nat hons.
