More breaking news from the PCB
Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan sued the Pakistan Cricket Board for defamation over its claims he was involved in recruiting batsman Mohammad Yousuf into the rebel Indian Cricket League.
Khan said in a defamation notice that "false and engineered statements" were made by the PCB that he pressured Yousuf to join the ICL, and that when the agreement was not finalized, Yousuf paid back the player's fee to Khan.
Khan has asked for a written apology from the PCB within three days as well as 100 million Pakistan rupees (US$1.3 million) as compensation for damage to his reputation.
"These charges are whimsical and baseless," PCB spokesman Mansoor Suhail told the Associated Press on Thursday.
Suhail said the cricket board was planning to claim damages from Khan for issuing the legal notice to the PCB.
Khan said in the defamation notice that Yousuf, through his own "sweet wish and will executed the agreement" with ICL and was paid an amount by check as a part of his player's fee.
When Yousuf planned to breach the agreement without any prior notice, the player transmitted back the player's fee to the ICL company's bank account, Khan said.
The ICL is a Twenty20 league that is not internationally recognized because it runs in competition to the officially sanctioned Indian Premier League.
