Rise of indian imperialism?
The gracelessness with which Indian players - Khan and Kumble - greeted the drawn test highlights the ascendancy of a new imperialism (this time Indian)...as the old US order crumbles under the weight of crazed flat earth economics and dies a deserved death and international lightweights such as Oz disappear into cultural and economic irrelevancy (beyond our holes in the ground), new powers arise - notably that of India...just like the Yanks, Indian culture now has lost its ability to appreciate other cultures...its takeover of cricket - eg Sri lanka giving up a tour of England for $40M only boosts its sense of cultural and economic superiority..
cricket is just a microcosm, a lens that can enable some insight into where various nation states stand..
I hope but doubt the Indian gracelessness and sense of superiority its cricketers displayed (and I have not even covered Khans screaming and the Filthilators continued obnoxious behaviour) is not reflective of broader Indian culture

Hopefully with more insight than your Indian critique, horrie.

Horace has a point re. Roebuck's claim of triumphalism in victory over the Indians in Sydney. At the time I wasn't too enamoured of their behaviour but when a player who wasn't even playing in Perth ran out with the Indian flag and started dancing around there were no similar cries from the media.
And over the years it's been fashionable to accuse us of trash-talking in the press and arrogance with our pre-match predictions and post-match boasts, yet India can seemingly follow suit with impunity.

Irrelevant I know but the first time I visited England I worked my way through England.
I stopped in a certain town (but it wasn't the first such occasion) and stayed at a sort of private boarding house. After a week my landlady said to us after our daily shower. "You Australians musn't have a bath too often at home"

Re: Rise of indian imperialism?
1. I wholeheartedly agree with horrie's comments on the Indian cricketers.
2. I don't see how cricket can be a microcosm for an entire nation.
3. Considering point 1 and 2, can that be applied to Australia? If so, how can the author of the thread hand out derision to any other country.
