Gambhir
Doremi and co- Still wanna call him "UMB"? He's done a sterling job for India so far in this series. He's no Sunil Gavaskar, but he's more than adequate, imo. Time to get off his back?

Re: Gambhir
It's refreshing for India to see someone other than the old guard playing well and with aggression.

Re: Gambhir
i certainly am changing my views about him, but still think he is not india's long term answer until he can start converting his starts into substantial innings. he doesnt have a single century in 15 non-minnow matches. lets hope he can make a ton at at quick rate in this innings. might be a turning point for him

Apart from Sehwag, who is a better opener in India than Gambhir? Jaffer? No. Chopra? No. There is no one better, so why are you guys complaining?

Re: Gambhir
Indeed, Gambhir has a reasonable technique and has aggression to match it. Good on the field as well. I have never seen any Indian opening batsmen give the charge to bowlers over 145 Ks, not even sure Viru does that. He is starting to justify the faith placed in him.Red wrote:It's refreshing for India to see someone other than the old guard playing well and with aggression.

He walks up the pitch when his side is 200 ahead - pardon me if I am not impressed.

Perhaps it confirms that an Oz bowling attack of Dung , Midge , Sewer , WHI and ShyTYT is minnow standard

Re: Gambhir
Aye, our worst attack since the likes of Chris Matthews and a young and raw Merv Hughes lead our attack v England at the Gabba in 86/87. But even that attack had some usefulness in Chook Reid, a fairly penetrative SRW and a handy Mo Matthews.embee wrote:Henry wrote:Doremi and co- Still wanna call him "UMB"? Re: Gambhir
The attack we had against Zimbabwe in 2003 of Bung, Bichel, Hoggggyyyyyy and Brad Williams FFS was worse than this one.

GG is brilliant.
As for the AUS attack i think its decent but not suited for these conditions. Things will be ok once they get back to AUS and play with an all seam attack

Just have a think about where you placed Gambhir in comparison with the other younger test prospects in terms of potential and what he is turning out to be. If they never get to play one will never get to know !!doremi wrote:Not yet, no.

bambi is ok...the story so far needs updating...this is not our best attack but by no means the worst...bung has again let the team down

Re: Gambhir
and we have been outbatted...further I do not rate the Indian bowling attack - only popgun status...sharma is average and khan (even if lolly assisted) is just a trundler...mishra looks ok and made a good debut but he is in his early days...filthilator is having a shocking series with the ball

At least I am certainly in favour of having Gambhir. He may not turn out to be a great batsman to score in excess of 7000 test runs, but he is a perfect partner for Sehwag right now. He has done well in sub-continent conditions. I'll wait for him to justify my faith at other places too like NZ where we'll be visiting next year and then some other countries too.
