Senior T&T players on strike over Stanford $$$$$
Oh dear oh dear oh dear
Now I am a Trini, and I haven't heard of a number of the players in the new squad. This is a massive shame as it is depriving the likes of Daren Bravo and Justin Guillien a chance to shine on the big stage.
I was really looking forward to the T&T v Middlesex clash, as they would be evenly matched if T&T were at full strength. However, now I promise you it will be a farce.
Squad:
Rayad Emrit (captain), Mario Belcon, Andre Browne, Samuel Felix, Rishard Harris, Kapil Harry, Imran Jan, Aniel Kanhai, Rakesh Maraj, Dave Mohammed, Magnum Nanan, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Visham Ramroop, Marlon Richards, Dane Teelucksingh.

Re: Senior T&T players on strike over Stanford $$$$$
One of the main problems with West Indian cricket these days is that the players think they're so much better than what they actually are. Probably a result of overly loving big West Indian Mummas constantly telling their little boy how "special" he is. Someone should slap them in the face and tell them that all that matters is how many runs they score, and how many wickets they take.
T20 and its millions could really spell big trouble for West Indies cricket; more than any other test playing nation, as none of their young players will even bother trying to play for the test side, such is their over inflated egos, unjustified over confidence in their ability, and love of the bling and good life that the $$$$$$ will provide. Worrying times.

It's been resolved at the last minute just before they got on the plane. It is so typically Caribbean .
What great preperation for the match! But I don't care, at least I will now get to see Daren Bravo bat on TV. He is T & T's most aesthetically pleasing young batsman since BCL (not surprising as he has modeled his game completely on the great man, right down to the manorisms).

I saw Darren Bravo bat in the under 19 world cup a few months back. He looked pretty decent, but Brian Lara he aint.

I am currently in the Solomon Islands for 2 weeks. We are 10 hours ahead of GMT over here.
And Henry, there will never be another player like Lara, but I have seen Daren Bravo bat before and he is equally as promising as Adrian Barath, and he will end up as a better batsman then his brother.

Is it similar to any of your Caribbean Islands?

W Indian cricketers are very hard to judge at first glance because a lot of them are quite talented but have poor techniques. Even the legends like Viv, Lara, Marshall were FAR from "conventional". Even Sobers was a bit different from the rest because he almost NEVER left his crease even against spinners and yet he had the ability to bat at an excellent rate.

Hey, WIFAN, you may not have picked this up, but I moved/emmigrated to Tobago in June. I don't yet have a TV (it's all utter USA crap apart from the occassional cricket on Sportsmax cable) and I have given up reading the papers as it consists solely of the latest body count in laventille/morvant and graphic descriptions of horrific road accident deaths.
SO......when are the games, what channel are they being televised on, what times, and if you know anyone with bar/decent rum shop connections in Tobago who is televising it, please let me know.

Ah, I gathered you were in the Caribbean but I had no idea you were in Tobago. I don't actually know Tobago that well and I am well and truly out of the Caribbean at the moment so I can't really help you with any rumshop suggestions I'm afraid. It is true, the Express seems to glorify murder and violence more than any other local paper I have come accross. I fear for T & T, particularly Port of Spain, I really do, we are going the way of Jamaica.
The matches start on Saturday with the Soca Warriors taking on the Stanford Superstars (phurt), and the 20 Million $$$$$ match is on November 1st. The coverage of each match starts at 7 pm in T&T and is available on SportsMax in Tobago.

Jeez, I thought that at least the big "local" matches would be broadcast on Channel 6 or one of the other local ones. Most people seem to have the DirectTV satellite service which does not have Sportsmax so they will not be able to see it in their own homes.WIFAN wrote:doctorspin wrote:Hey, WIFAN, you may not have picked this up, but I moved/emmigrated to Tobago in June. Anyway, so you are one of the many infamous Trinis who have never been to the paradise in their own country then. My own theory is it is because most Trinis can't swim. As beaches are a major attraction here I think Trinis are afraid and prefer to dodge the bullets in their glorious over-urbanised filthy metropolis.
However, if you fancy a "lime" down at Pigeon Point, I assure you that it is very shallow, no waves and no current (usually.) I have only been stung by a stonefish once there so that is not too bad
It's easy to find me; ring the hospital, there are only 3 of us psychiatrists so I am usually on call. That's why I had to get a Digicel phone as you get reception on some beaches which TSTT's BMobile don't reach Mustn't miss the calls about those emergency alcoholics rolling into casualty in the DT's cause they can't afford any more Puncheon.

Haha you may just be spot on, but you won't find many of us admitting it. However do not underestimate the beauty of Maracas Bay, we do have at least one presentable beach (though I really only go occasionally for Richard's bake n'shark tbh).

Sounds great, when I'm next in the Caribbean (not sure when exactly at the moment as I'm in the Solomon Islands and am off to the the UK again after that) I will contact you and see if I can drag myself over to Pigeon Point . Btw aren't stonefish pretty damn dangerous? Over in the pacific they warn you about messing with stonefish and lionfish so I really hope you are winding me up
But, Geez man, as a psychiatrist in T & T you must have your work cut out for you!!!!!!!!
Oh, and the listings say it is going to be on TV6 as well but I have been let down by that bloody channel before!!!!!!!!

AAAHHHHHH....Maracas!!!!!! OK I admit it, in my view it is probably one of the best and most beautiful beaches in the world although not in a classic way. Even the drive over to it is stunningly spectacular. In that respect it is out of keeping with the rest of the filth and neglect of Trinidad. And I LOVE the waves and surfing/boogy-boarding on them. You get a really good work out doing that for a few hours.
And the shark and bake......it's totally unbeatable, my only regret that I am in Tobago and not the other island.
The stonefish in the Caribbean are not quite as dangerous as the Pacific ones, but they can be fatal if you are unlucky. However, I only foundout that reassuring fact after I had been stung. I believe the pain is exactly the same though; which is so extreme that you wished the Caribbean stonefish WAS fatal and rapidly so. I simply could not conceive that such pain in that amount was possible. Oh, and I wasn't messing about.I stepped on it. They are so well camouflaged and also sometimes bury themselves under sand.
BTW what you do if you get stung is put the affected part in water which is as hot as you can possibly bear. It denatures the toxin. It worked, so long as you kept the water steaming hot. I had to go on steroids for a week to take the swelling down, my foot really was the size of a football.
But don't worry, now you know of the dangers, the water is so crystal clear, you just keep looking down or wear beach shoes
