You mean sooking cricketers? Never looked at them from that point of view as I said. But I like the quick bowling attack of SA because they provide excitement.

SA will struggle in the FIRST innings but in the 2nd innings they will do well.
I reckon they can CHASE anything around 350(or may be even 400) in the 2nd dig so AUS must keep that in MIND.

WTF is it with spivs and ball watching? Haddin decides to gawk at it tracking towards the boundary while Lee is 15 yards down the wicket?

I tell you, without the NSW contingent, the howls would from Oz have been far louder. ... and I don't mean howls of laughter.

On morning radio there is a lot of deriding of Smith for his lack of a third man and persistence with Kallis's pie chucking. They thought it was also tough for Steyn to have to mainly bowl into the wind.

Bugger me. Where did you find a radio station that broadcasts drivel criticising South Africa's performance yesterday? Methinks the voices in your head are taking over.Red wrote:On morning radio there is a lot of deriding of Smith for his lack of a third man and persistence with Kallis's pie chucking. Once you get use to the bounce then this Perth pitch can become a batting paradise because there isn't much pace of the pitch.

That explains the Pakistani result in 2004-5

actually PAK have never lost an ODI at Perth. Don't you remember Aqib Javed bowling with 5 slips to David Boon in the 1992 WC match at Perth? plus back then Perth pitches were quite fast, i remember Ambrose taking 7/1

Not good for accuracy. At least not at speed. Okay for spinners.
...rare moment of sagacity from skullywag...fleas, the kid, the unit (who proved what a classic qbilly he is by failing to adjust to around the wicket), roy (another thicko qbilly) and haddit failed dismally with stoopid shots that were totally inappropriate to the situation...of the tail midge was bowled by a goodun and bung failed to distinguish himself by keeping his body as far away from the ball as he could...as for punter the extravagant drive first ball is a signature - is he nearing the end?...only hussey was done in by a good ball which he tried to keep down..
the pitch is an absolute belter and I expect Oz to be flogged in the field today and tomorrow...we have one good bowler proven capable of taking wickets with the new ball - midge..two promising players playing their second test and the guy on the sponsors exemption...
hope today has the same ups and downs as yesterday but do not have much confidence

Should Punter have a 3rd man in from ball 1?

Re: Australia v South Africa, 1st Test, Perth, Dec 17-21
I've made repeated references to the Aussie team batting like millionaires regardless of circumstances many times in the past few years.
Yesterday showed that - at times - the 'must smack the ball around and take stoopid risky runs any chance we get' mentality has actually been blocked, albeit partially.
Haydos showed up that he is too old, too slow, and not deserving of the baggy green any longer. He's proof of the old adage that it's harder to get out of the Aussie cricket team than to get it.
Ponting, unlucky (as is any batsman out for a golden gozzie) but a ripper catch. Catches win matches and the yarpies did well on that score.
Hussey, has the worm finally turned on him? He seems to have the cricketing gods decided that he needs a run as a mere mortal now, compared to his earlier career.
Katich. Proved once again that being dumped from the team can be beneficial to a player. Was sensible, but still scored at a decent clip. Mind you, the way he got out (again) walking across in front of his stumps might have a few bowlers in the English set up wetting their panties in anticipation of the Ashes.
Clarke. Has matured remarkably. His running between the wicket was a concern at times (still) and he threw away his wicket. Won't be a world-class batsman until he learns to bat all day and then some when needed.
Symonds. Got some runs, good on him, but is definitely the replacement for Mark Waugh. 'I've scored a few, now I can get out'. Could have and should have scored more.
Haddin. Finally starting to show some of the promise at Test level that he's shown domestically. He'll never be a Gilchrist, but who will?
Lee. Useful runs down the order again. Which is handy because he'll give most of them back in no-balls and wides today.
Krazy. Held his end up. Did the job required.
MJ. I love watching him bat at 10. For all the calls from some quarters for him to be further up the order, I like the way he has a go, and it seemingly comes off for about 20 entertaining runs late in the innings almost every time.
I wasn't greatly impressed by any of the Yarpie bowlers. I think Ntini was used downwind too much, to the detriment of the other bowlers, but given that he took two early wickets there, can you blame Sooky for sticking with it? The SAffers definitely have their heads in front after the first day, but the match is a long way from over. Having said that, I'll be very surprised if South Africa lose wickets at the same rate as the Aussies, and even more surprised if they don't wind up with a first innings lead.
