embee wrote:horace wrote:lol...another standard outright win under 3 days...jokes aside, I thought the retros would be much more competitive, even tho they had the worst of the batting conditions
they're in full on crab mode , H
batting was shit ....coot is the least talented of the top 6 by a long way and he was the only one to show a bit of fight ....bowlers had the vomits in deep trouble twice (4/59 & 8/193) and still conceded an 81 run lead ...Eddo needs to get fit so he doesnt break down
The problem is ...
Davis / Robinson ...new players ...very inconsistent ...have both done well at times ...also been shit at times too
Marsh ....CA contracted player ...Should he be opening or at number 3 ? ...I dont think going to India and sittiing on his arse was what his cricket needed ...seems to be a bit tighter this year but it just means he doesnt score as many runs before he plays his rash shot and gets out
Coot ...Plenty of heart ....handy medium pace ....not the most talented of the top 6 ...i'd keep him and drop of of the "untouchables"
North ...leading run scorer for the season ...most of them in one game ...reasonable captain ....tidy part time spinner
Voges ... needs some runs ....spot might be in danger ...did well as captain last season ...tidy part time spinner
Pombasher ...2 hundreds and a fifty this season ...all in second innings ...dropped down the order as was a bit exposed at number 3 ...poison chalice curse continuing
Doropolous ...Young player ...bowling not to back up level ...has the ability to be a very good player at shield level
Ronchi ....keeping has been outstanding ...batting has been awful
Heal/Mangan ...suffered from Woz playing four games at the WACA so far ...little game time ...lack of penetration or opportunity a problem
Magoffin/Dorey ...excellent start ...has lacked support or the killer blow
Eddo/Davis/Crawford ...keep breaking down in games ...has hurt the other bowlers
Kelly ...expensive
Johnston has scored enough runs at grade level to be given a chance as the 6th batsman ...and got an 80 against the Saffies ...his bowling should be handy too
Simmons / Heron have been tried before ...dont think either are the solution
Johnson ...the second keeper ...can bat ...not sure if ronchi should be axed for the top orders inability to score
thompson or coetzee might be worth a look as bowlers
not a bad analysis...your blokes were stiff to lose the toss and cop the worst of the conditions on two of the 3 mornings...the vix would argue the match was hard fought and closer than it looked in the end.
rogers aside, none of our blokes have been starring but all have chipped in with timely contributions.
Rogers - in great form
Jewell - early great form has nosedived and needs to put a good score together
Hodge - same as for Jewell
Hussey - has made some solid scores but is underachieving
White - contribution improving, leads team well - rarely bowls
McDonald - tough all rounder, gets runs, takes key wickets and blinhder catches
Quiney - started season with a blast - tapering off a bit
Wade - in great keeping form...making runs
Wright - just about in career best form, making runs and snaring wickets
Mckay - rotation quick..bowling very well
Nannes - the goat is in explosive form...pity he spent too many years in his 20's being a skier...otherwise would be leading the Oz attack
other bowlers - Ozzie Pat made a promising debut, stickers harwood always earns his place, Siddle our best quick may not play much for us now, Holland is a very aggressive 20 y/o offie who will get more chances in the future.

The Sean Marsh bubble has well ad truly burst. Shows what a carp version of the game T20 is if he is its star.

Geez, Cracka, you're ****** in the head sometimes.
I made mention of the SA boys so as to point out the embarrassment of riches in the Premier State.

Is it my imagination or is there only 1 half decent team (Victoria) playing in the Shield at the moment? The rest are completely crap it would seem.

A bloke who wasn't good enough to make the Qld team has just made 74 in a test for the Windies & another bloke who isn't good enough to make the Victorian team played a test for England earlier this year.

Belated congrats to the Tozzies on their monumental effort today - scoring 3 runs for outright victory.
As lardy will attest, winners are grinners. Or so his SMSs allude.

Sage as a sage thing.
Murray Goodwin was unsuccessful in Shield cricket but seemed to do OK for Zimbabwe. Peter Bowler, a fairly successful County cricketer, couldn't get a regular gig with either Tasmania (not even the Second XI) or the Canberra Comets. Symonds could have played Test cricket several years earlier for England, but preferred to wait and play for Australia. Overseas players who have dominated at Australian FC level: Sobers, Garner, Barry Richards. Overseas players who have done OK: Imran, Younis Khan, Younis Ahmed, Botham, Majjid, Hick, Hadlee, etc. Australian players who have done well at County level: well, there have been a few.
County cricket would be strong, a good match for Australian FC cricket, if there were about 10 counties.

You've forgotten the likes of Slater, Blewett, Voges, Clarke, Bollinger, and Tait. These guys were complete rubbish in county cricket.

And what does that prove? The number of Australians who have done well in CC far outways those who haven't.
