The decline of Hayden and Ponting
It's been steady. Since the start of 2005, Hayden averages 46, whilst Ponting averages 42 since the start of 2007. Around 2004, both of them were averaging near 60.
I'm pretty sure Hayden is over the hill for good, but will Ponting ever be able to recapture the form of 2002-2006? He is 34 already, and he has a dodgy wrist. Might only be 12-18 months left in him. I think Ponting might have to consider doing a Tendulkar and tone down his stroke play a bit and become more of an accumulator if he wants to play past his 35th birthday.

Decline of Hayden is a fair call. But Ponting too? I think you are being hasty here.

Re: The decline of Hayden and Ponting
ponting's career seems to mirror dravid's with a one year lag. peak average near 60 and falling. he still has at least 2 years left in him. and in case there are no real replacements even 3. cant really say if he will get out of this slump, but if it continues he may only play till the next aussie summer. hayden is pretty much dead and buried, its a matter of months
maybe if ponting stopped smack-talking so much and concentrated on letting his bat do most of it he would see better results

They're both QUNTS. Relevant only in that it increases the schadenfreude.
Maybe time for a poll as to which QUNT has greatest schadenfreude attached.
Would be a long one as it would have to include Clarke, Symmonds..........

good grief...has Mudge and his antedeluvian and mysogonistic views on women taken control of the forum...why misuse one of the great joys and basics of life as a term of abuse???
I know there are a few dubbers and even more poms and banindians on the forum - and it goes without saying that some have uncertainty about their identity - but this is pretty poor excuse

Re: The decline of Hayden and Ponting
Dos made three tons from the five matches last summer, averaged 62.87, but he seems much declined since then.
Ponting hasn't had his best results over the past two years but I don't believe he has genuinely lost ability.
