Re: What to do about the ICC
Can anyone explain who decides who are the corrupt officials at the ICC?

Revert to the MCC.
Ever since the ICC were formed, we've had nowt but crap decisions and tenuous issues which have split the cricketing world.
Fact is, having said all that, I know for certain the MCC would not want the poisoned chalice back.
Too much toxic waste in it right now ....

Thats not what I want. Personally I'd rather have a fresh start. I just want the sport to be run by a body that believes in fair play, integrity and wants to give the fans good cricket.

The ICC was poor pre Malcolm Speed, but under his presidency it has become a complete and utter shambles that cant do anything right.

Which major large-scale organization in the world including national goverments can claim it is politics/corruption-free? By definition, none.

But haven't you spotted the new "Empire" in the impotent ICC whose priorities clearly lie in keeping certain Cricket Boards sweet and onside ($$$$$$) rather than have the game's purest interests at heart?
The appointment of a Zimbabwean crook (from a cricketing nation barred from playing Test matches) and a PCB representative (whose Board were in direct confrontation with an Umpire just 2 months previously) to a disciplinary panel deciding the fate of said Umpire is a clear indication IMO that common sense has been abandoned in favour of pandering to whims.
Impartiality?
Phurt .... there's no such thing anymore...
Fetch the noose ....

True. But why would you rather have the partiality the other way around?

What about Madugalle? And the fact that Hair was voted off the panel 'democratically'? 7 votes to 3.

Not suggesting that al all. Never have.
The age old concept of the old colonial MCC is dead and buried. Gone.
There's a new breed in the Club - multi racial (and women) and all cricket lovers ....
They've moved on and into the 21st century ... the likes of tw*ts like GO Allen and A Bedser will never be seen again.
The main issue is that the MCC are impartial - and the setting up of a special Board with reps from all the cricketing nations with the game's interest at heart is surely a step in the right direction.
Impartial attention to detail, ensuring that the game of cricket is at the forefront of all decisions taken - NOT where the next pay-out is coming from.
If an alternative NEUTRAL board can be set up that's brilliant - book it fast ... but I can't see that somehow. Each member of the ICC appear to be in it for one thing and one thing only - their own self gratification.... and bu**ger the consequences.
The Hair tribunal is a farce - it should never have happened. And right now the rest of sport is probably sitting back p!ssing themselves laughing at the mess cricket has got itself into.

Madugalle is an excellent referee, but he was NOT on the field of play.
His intervention came hours later, and his was a tenuous position at best.
7 - 3 - yes, I'll grant you that - voted off by the same ICC that cited hair just months before as an exemplary umpire - 3rd to Taufel and Bucknor.
How opinions change!

If Bucknor was 2, that ranking loses whatever credibility it might've had.
And opinions obviously do change - as new data, observations, trickle in.

Re: What to do about the ICC
Like all these things that oversee the look and running of a being. In this case they grow to love their own importance and think that it's bigger than the game itself. Offices filled with clipboard holders and more offices than grounds. Fatcats, large pensions and expense bills.
I don't think there's too much wrong with the Cricket once it gets out onto the field. But we really shouldn't have to hear very much from the ICC or what they are upto in matters that aren't related to the safe-keeping of the game.
You don't notice a good umpire, nor should you ever.

Re: What to do about the ICC
From what I've gleamed of ICC politics the only solution I can come up with is for England and NZ to withdraw from the ICC and if the remaining members won't negotiate separate contracts with non-members, well sod them and we'll leave them to their corrupt, money grabbing, clueless w*nkfest. England and the acceptable face of antipodea can chum up with some nice Scandinavian countries, Tonga and the People's Republic of China to form their own hyper-ethical, dynamic and just bl*ody brilliant ICC and create a new cricketing world order. Hopefully this will then lead to the violent overthrow of all the other cricket boards and they will then follow suit and we'll all live happily ever after.

Re: What to do about the ICC
Pity Kerry Packer is no longer with us. I'm sure he could come up with better alternative than the ICC.
As he is'nt, i reckon the running of the game should go back to the MCC...and that F***wit, Sir John Anderson should be sent back to the land of the long white sheep shaggers.
