Re: Darren Powell predicts a whitewash
I get the impression that most expect to lose but with dignity, but a healthy percentage think that we are capable of beating a divided and complacent England team if our test class performers show up to the party.
I personally expect us to win a test match but lose the series as we will not be consistent enough and England are clearly the better team, but JT and Fidel will bowl England out cheaply at least once and that may enable us to win a test.

It's Daren. And I think I'll take the words of shit cricketers very lightly indeed. Someone should tell him, actually, that a whitewash might be a distinct possibility against this England side if only he'd do the honourable thing by pulling out of the Windies side and giving someone with some talent an opportunity.
One must admit though that Powelly has a wonderful physique - purely from a heterosexual, 'I'm jealous' viewpoint, of course.

Divided? Only time will tell...
Complacent is the last thing they'll be. Not good enough or ordinary perhaps, but no England team can ever afford to be complacent.
As for Powells comments - it spices up the series. And as Bas says he's got a lot of sledging coming his way. Brave talk for pretty much the same bunch of players who have lost 10 of the last 12 tests against England.
But I agree with you WIFAN, they may well take a test - certainly been improving lately.

3 nil will be too one sided
2-1 WI win will be just right.

It would be funny if he doesn't make the team. Fortunately for Powell both his coach and captain inexplicably love him.

Was thinking about this the other day, and a number of our key performers struggle against England.
Gayle - Prospered in ODI cricket, but been average in test cricket.
Sarwan - Apart from the odd innings he has struggled. Looked in good touch on the last tour before getting a serious injury.
Shiv - Loves everyone's bowling nowadays, good luck getting him out more than 3 times in the series!
Devon Smith - Played one awesome innings at Sabina Park, but otherwise has been awful against England. Looked clueless against Monty.
Ramdin - Has been woeful against England apart from one half century at Lords.
JT - Was not fit last series and so was nowhere near his best. Still bowled one superb spell of reverse swing at Lords where he removed Cook and was robbed by the umpires when in full flow.
Fidel - Two good series against England (including the last one) where he made them look uncomfortable against his pace, and one horrible series in 2004.
Powell - Awful against everyone lets face it. Best moment of his career was his dismissal of KP in the last ODI series, where he actually used his brain for the first time in his career.
Dale Richards, Brendan Nash and the two spinners have never played England before.

Re: Darren Powell predicts a whitewash
Phurt that describes the current version of Harmison more than JT or Fidel.
Australia were 17/5 against our pace attack at Sabina Park last year. Recovered to be bowled out for 160 odd in the end, but Symonds was given two lives by my dear friends the umpires.
That Aussie batting lineup is better than the current England one.

I would never play Harami again.
I'll believe a WI win is possible when I see it.

Re: Darren Powell predicts a whitewash
it is going to be difficult but as WIfan hinted that taylor and Edwards are more than good enough to cause a few collapses. They just need Powell to not get carried away.Rob I wrote:PlanetPakistan wrote:

Sabina park and Kensington Oval can certainly go WI's way.

Actually, they got us out several times cheaply in 2004. Each time, Thorpey or Nass or Butch would grind out some runs, usually supported by Piles. Then the big four would knock WI out for less. I'm not sure a half-fit SiBo, a three-quarters carp Harami, an unproven Broady, and Fred can do that.
Mind you, we have a proper spinner this time instead of Pilo.

A West Indian win would be a great thing for Test cricket. I hope for it, but don't expect it.

ENG have gone south while WI have gone NORTH so it should be a competitive series.

England have comfortably put away sides below them in the rankings. It's the top 3 they've come unstuck against.

That's what Mark Nicholas says.
