It is impossible for it to be more boring than the VB Series.
The only problem this time around is that Australia played South Africa first instead of New Zealand and that the series are back to back.
Playing the 5 matches v the Kiwis in December would have been a better fit.

The tri nations had more matches. Sometimes the results were in doubt before they were played.

Well, it's not politics, but it's a start.

I think everybody used to like the Tri-Nations.
It was a great tournament for about 20 years.
I think it started to go downhill when they began playing it in one giant block. Until the late '90s it was usually spread throughout the season, with a couple of matches being played in between tests here and there.
That was in the days before specialised one-day teams, but it allowed fans to avoid JAMODI overload.

The players complained though because they found it difficult adapting from team to team and format to format.
Greg Chappell partly used it as an excuse for the underarm.

It's amazing how first-class teams manage to adapt from the Sheffield Shield to the Ford Ranger Cup to the Twenty20. Yet ask international teams to do it and they have trouble.
I understand the problem for touring sides though. You either have to keep flying players in and out or keep more players on tour for longer.
It just makes for less varitey.
