Apparently Australia will reclaim the number 1 spot in the ODI rankings if they beat NZ in the first ODI tomorrow. So they will basically go back to number 1 if they beat a team that is far lower than them on the rankings. In the words of Ian Botham- Explain that one to me.

I was talkiing openly about the rankings, and allowing others to draw their own conclusions about Trev, who clearly thought they were silly then ... but has made no such comment more recently.

I think the ranking would be less silly if extra points are given when a team wins away from home.

I was thinking that. But no, they shouldn't. They could start by finding themselves a permanent home away from home, though. Dubai? They certainly wont be playing any more 'home' tests in England for a while after Ijaz Butt's outbursts.

Or, they could be binned from Test cricket until the security situation improves, and the board there is shown to be serious about tackling match and/or spot fixing, and likewise re the players.

Obviously they need to tackle the fixing problems but it would be unfair to ban them for the security situation in the country. That's hardly the PCB's fault.

No team will tour there for at least five years.
