That's between 17 and 19 out of 43. I'd say that qualifies as many.

Aye - reflects the fact that there's often been a huge disparity between the two conferences, the AFC and the NFC.

One has often been far stronger than the other and the Superbowl is always contested by the winners of their respective conference and rarely the two strongest sides in the NFL as a whole.

During the period (when I first started getting into the game) between 1985 and 1997 when the NFC produced the champion on 13 consecutive occasions, such was their dominance over the AFC that only 3 Superbowls were decided by a winning margin of less than 12 points, and 6 saw a blowout of 22 points or more.

The AFC has been predominant in terms of champions since then, so much so that the overall series now stands at just 22-21 in favour of the NFC after the Steelers win on Sunday, but the trend has been towards a better balance in overall strength between the 2 conferences in recent years, and hence the Superbowl has seen some far better contested games.
