Basically, before the FA and FIFA changed the footballs to the "Swerve-O-Matic" a year back, Lampard was damn class. You simply don't get pipped to European footballer of the year by Ronaldinho and shortlisted for World Footballer of the year if you're anything but world-class. It's not a popularity contest.

:D
Meh. I'm just sick of the "Lampard is poo" bandwagon. It makes no sense and is completely idiotic.

Thankyou! Some sense! I thought I was going bonkers. He came second in the World Footballer of the year award, not just shortlisted.

Also, about the box-to-box thing, he covers 10-12 Miles in those 90 minutes, you have to be covering alot of grass for that amount of miles.
Re: The EPL thread (I)
Its only personal opinion though LLL.
He not a crap player by any imagination, I personally think he falls well short of 'world class'

Yeah. Usually should be the same anyway - Euro & World. It's where it's at.
Re: The EPL thread (I)
As the kids would say - Trudat!
The reason I like Lampard is because he's really worked hard to shed the "fat Frank" tag he acquired at West Ham by becoming the best player he can possibly be and in the process becoming one of the fittest (feck of Lever), most consistent and best midfielders in the world.
He's also a damn sight more intelligent thatn your average footballer. I read somewhere that he got an A in GCSE Latin and was planning a career in law before football took over.
All in all, he's a good egg. Nay, a world class good egg. In the same class as players like Bryan Robson (and that's a pretty high accolade).

It's not just about personal opinion though. You've got to back it up with some fact. Otherwise I could say that Zico was crap. It's my personal opinion. It would make absolutely no sense because there is no evidence to substantiate it.
Zico is crap. Fire is cold. Dogs are really cats. All personal opinions. All nonsensical.

Bull-sh!t !!!!!!!
Re: The EPL thread (I)
Ok.
Technically he's ok, but nothing special. Not particularly fast.
And an ok passer of the ball.
Good player, but not world class.
My opinion.

How in the arching fork do you pull out a stat like Lamps has only had 6/96 deflected goals. Ridiculous.

Typical English, blood and guts run up and down and hoof it when you get in sight of goal. Every promising move in 2006 was ended by Lampard hoofing it into the stand with 3 or 4 players waiting in a better position to receive a pass.
Strange how we get a midfielder prepared to play a considered game and do the simple things and suddenly England look like a team again.

I won't be too surprised if he makes notes about every minute Lampard spends on the field.

Wikipedia - Lampard has been accused of scoring goals from deflections. However, a report from The Guardian newspaper shows that only six of his goals (6.7%) for Chelsea have been scored in that way.[17] As Martin Samuel of the Times sarcastically put it: "what a lucky boy he must be: 83 deflections since August 2003"[18]

Yet still manages to be one of the best midfielders in the world season in, season out with all those faults. Imagine what he'd be like if he was better in those areas!

Utter mouth-jizm. As I said, the balls changed, he got worse. Fact of the matter is, he knocked in plenty for us beforehand and was therefore granted the license to shoot.
Bar Owen, our positioning was so w@nk there weren't many or any options.
Re: The EPL thread (I)
Ahh... you get your opinions from Wiki. What do you think to Pat Fish? I loathe him.

Absolute gash. Like I said. Without Lampard's goals, we wouldn't have qualified. Blood and guts my arse. I don't think you watch him much. He's an excellent passer. He's the closest thing to Kaka England have. Less pace but more goals.

Bloody hell! Quoting wikipedia for facts is pretty sketchy in the first place, when they're citing the guardian website for that you know you're in trouble!
And if that isn't bad enough its already a year out of date.
Do they have anything on there on who had most shots in the World Cup, and another of the leading goalscorers in the same tournament?

No. I got stats from wiki. And those were from Guardian and Times articles.
