What evidence? it's just been you blowing the trumpet about how he's international class, while 10 other people disagreed.

Everyone knows Gerrard and Hargreaves should be playing in the middle for England, hell i'd even select Barry over Lampard for England.

10 other people that have made no sort of argument that isn't worthy of wiping my ass with.

I'm off now, Mak but feel free to get together with the 9 others and form some sort of credible argument against Lampard. So far it's been quite embarrassing.

Back to the thread topic, can't wait for Arsenal - Man U next week! Going to be a struggle waking up before noon on a Saturday though. Perhaps a cup of cocoa and an early night on Friday are in order.

No one is denying Lampard is a class club player even i'll say that, he just falls short when playing for Eng and i don't know why, if he carried his Chelsea form onto Eng i would never deny him being world class.

Yep the Arsenal - Man U should be a good game, the 2 best teams in the country who are capable of scoring loads of goals, can't wait.

Both teams like to attack, United are better on the break though, but no would not rule out a 0-0 thriller. Laughing

Both short of a real class out and out striker.

Lampard - This has been done to death so I don't know why I'm bothering but..... Good player, always have agreed with that. But Gerrard's better than him. In Chelsea he has the luxury of Makelele and Co. doing most of the dirty work. For England, he has played most times with Gerrard and they really don't go together. Furthermore, intl. football isn't half as open, fast paced and attacking as club football, teams tend to be defensive (unless you are Brazil). This means he won't get the same no. of opportunities to make that shot and that killer pass, which probably inhibits him to a large degree.

Agree Mak - though I have to admit (for the first time since he left for Barca) I thought Arsenal missed the creative brilliance of Henry up front against Liverpool yesterday.

ManU are going to be a tough nut to crack next Saturday given the form they're currently in. However, should the Gunners manage a win, then that's 2 giant hurdles they will have cleared in 7 days ... 'Pool (away) and the Scum at home ... which will do nothing but boost their confidence.

We've got to keep remembering - the average age of this team is in the low 20's ... not a bad achievement for the dour Frenchman who kept telling everyone to "be patient".

Ronaldinho isn't as good, and never will be, as Zidane. Lampard doesn't even come close. The comparison is so absurd it's not even worth commenting upon, but I did because LLL is the second person I've known saying that.

Sorry doremi but that's a piss poor argument. Terrible effort. Shit as.

Zidane had Makalele "doing the dirty work" for him at Real and for France. Earlier he had Davids at Juventus. Ronaldinho has had Gilberto/Emerson and Deco/Edmilson/Marquez for Barca. Baggio had Dino Baggio or Albertini. Rivaldo had Dunga. Scholes had Keane. Pires had Viera. Gerrard has had Hamann and later Sissoko, Alonso and Mascherano. Fabregas has had Flamini/Gilberto doing the dirty work for him. Charlton had Nobby Stiles. Fock me, Pele and Jarzinho had Gerson, was it?

There's about a million examples. It's one of the oldest and most fundamental rules of football; the artist and the destroyer. Most great attacking midfielders have had excellent defensive midfielders "doing the dirty work". Your argument makes no sense at all.

What's your point about International football? He proved himself as a world class international at Euro 2004 and for 2 years after that.

Edit: added "Your argument" in front of "makes no sense..."

Interesting question. It's all very well making unsubstantiated claims that he is and never will be as good as Zidane but frankly, you have no idea. It's simply ridiculous romanticism. Rivaldo, for example, was easily as good, if not better than Zidane for large periods of Zidane's career.

Zidane was an unbelievable and capital G Great player but I see absolutely no reason why Ronaldinho can't be as good as Zidane by the end of his career. He's certainly as skillful. He scores more goals. He's just as aesthetically pleasing. He's won everything there is to win at club and international level. From 2004 until about halfway through last season he was the best player in the world by a country mile and was playing football that was touched by God.

I don't know if you remember the match at the Bernabeau when he scored twice and embarrassed Madrid by himself, leading to a standing ovation from the Madrid fans, something that never happens? Probably not eh?

To say that the comparison is absurd is childish. Deifying Zidane to such an extent because he was beautiful to watch is idiocy.
