Re: England ODI Squad
I wouldn't have thought Amjad would be the best choice for a ODI.
Wait until you see what we come up with considering Gayle is injured for the 20-20 and the first 2 ODI's.
It's not going to pretty....

Sidebottom pulled out. Natch.
England obviously feel that a guy who bowls loads of no balls and wides (that's Test wides - he also spears a bunch down the leg-side) and sprays it everywhere is just the ticket for ODIs.
If his selection in the Test squad was odd, this is mysterious to the point of mental illness.
Re: England ODI Squad
Not sure Yessie is even the best limited overs bowler @ Kent.
Robbie Joseph takes his wickets @ 24, econ 4.77.
Not that I'm advocating his call-up...

Maybe you should stop calling him Yessie and call him 't instead.

He's obviously been added because he's there and they can't be arsed to fly anyone else out.

Doesn't Sean Connery still live in the Caribbean?
I'd rather have that one-accent-fits-all bastard opening the bowling than NotImran.

England selectors continue to disappoint me. Hardly a fresh face in sight, apart from Davies and Rashid. I suppose you could call Batty a fresh face, but I don't think anyone can say he look's fresh.
Fingers crossed that Rashid gets atleast one game on this tour.

Re: England ODI Squad
I'm looking forward to seeing Rashid, I have heard some really good things about him and genuine leg spinners are great to watch.
I wouldn't play him in the 20-20 as they don't want to encourage him to start bowling darts, but I would definitely play him in all the ODI's and see what he brings to the side.

I just hope Rashid isn't the Anderson of English Leg Spin. We just need a consistent bowler who isn't Flintoff. Also, one without the continuous injury woes.

Rashid shouldn't be playing ODIs. But then, nor should Amjad Khan. He couldn't keep it tight nor even hit the cut strip in a Test Match. He seems to be another of England's "projects."

Re: England ODI Squad
Can you imagine all the free hits? Theres no way he'll be picked. He's just there incase a few drop dead.
Re - Rashid, he's a prospect but you never know how players will step up a level and in anycase he's young for a legspinner.
It would be nice for him to succeed at ODI's because he's a good fielder, can bat and offers something different with the ball rather than a conventional offie.
How often have we set 250 and had side 150-2? Games have been as good as over. With a leggie you've always got a chance of picking up wickets.

Re: England ODI Squad
So out of that lot, let's try and come up with a side. How about-
Prior+
Bopara
Shah
Pietersen
Strauss(c)
Collingwood
Flintoff
Rashid
Mascarenhas
Broad
Anderson
Prior is in great form with the bat. If he doesn't make runs at the top of the ODI order now he never will. I wouldn't have Mascarenhas in the side under normal circumstances, but by f*ck i'd rather him than Gareth Batty.
There's a shit load of batting there, but the bowling looks thin. Probably doesn't matter as the pitches will more than likely be complete roads.

Those in bowl will play, so 3 places up for grabs.
Let's stop kidding ourselves here, Rashid is there to carry the drinks - Gazza Batty will play for being a good old county pro whose career will go nowhere at international level.

Re: England ODI Squad
Strauss will open I'm sure. Has he ever batted at 5 in his career in any format? Bopara's looked best as a "finisher" in this form of the game.
Usual problems with the bowling, not sure if the team above is relying on too many bits-and-pieces medium pace overs. But Noey will go all over the park in this format, that's if he ever manages to complete an over... suspect Harmison will play as they'd have sent him home otherwise.

Yah. Switch Capt Bright and Bops around. Left-right openers, too. Bops even 6 with Collier 5.
Maybe draft in Mahmood.

Re: England ODI Squad
I'm fairly optimistic re: the batting and heck if FLintoff stays fit and Broad and Jimmikins bring their test match form the bowling could be enough.
I'd play Gareth Batty Because I want to sex him.
And also because he'll do a solid enough job against a pretty ordinary Windies side and I want to see England win at least one solitary game before the winter's out. After the Windies though he should be sent back to Dello's Porn Dungeon.

If we are ordinary than what does that make England in ODI cricket? The last time the two sides met we ended up with 9 slip fielders
Rashid offers 10 times more than Batty and will certainly be around for the next 2/3 World Cups.
