While Lee continues to delude himself that maximum four-over spells on Indian pitches will be an ideal preparation for the Ashes, Clark will be playing county cricket.

Kent & Middlesex should forego their fees from the ECB this season.
County self interest takes precedence over the national side once again.

That's good news. Should have Gump ready and raring to go for T1, while Bung sooks in his low GI energy milkshake back in Sydney.

After months in the doldrums, life is starting to look up for the average Aussie cricket fan.

Indeed Zoggy. Amazing how resilient the Aus structure has been shown to be.
Still, it'll only take a sh!thouse performance in T3 v Yarps to burst that bubble.

I hear Kent have ordered a new truckload of cricket balls, and have started to integrate touch rugby into all their training programmes.

I was reading in the Spiv Sundy Tele that the Poms don't rate Phews. I tend to understand their thinking, given his awkward technique. I can see them setting 3 gullies.
I guess time will tell. Will be interesting to see the Yarpie tactics to the young man in T3.

Who are 'the Poms' Skully?
The players?
Don't think they're in a position to 'rate' anyone right now.

Mebbe all the comparisons to a young Doug Walters are part of the key.skully wrote:I was reading in the Spiv Sundy Tele that the Poms don't rate Phews. I tend to understand their thinking, given his awkward technique. I can see them setting 3 gullies.

I mean when Toohey's released a light beer (2.2% alcohol) and got Dougggie to advertise it, it was said to have been named after his English batting average.

It was just some pommy journo and based on the snippets the aussie hack quoted it was a massive beat up.
The points quoted were along the lines of "the ball will do more on engish decks which will make it more difficult for him" and "things will get harder for him as bowlers work out how to bowl him to - something which the saffies didn't have the data to work out beforehand but the poms will"
Seems to me both statements are factual and hardly scream we don't rate him. In fact they probably say we rate him and are already looking at ways to combat him.
To cap it off the article included "they didn't rate Bradman to start with either"

See?
Just like my hunch ...
"The Poms" indeed. Ha! Generalisation, or sweeping statement?

He's not that different to Lara in that regard. You will probably get him out in the gully or covers eventually but he would have scored a shedload before then.

Honestly, I'd settle for 50 or 60 each innings before they get him. And every other batsman in the side as well. At least down to #7.JGK wrote:skully wrote:I was reading in the Spiv Sundy Tele that the Poms don't rate Phews. I tend to understand their thinking, given his awkward technique. He reminds me more of Ganguly than Lara.

My Hughes prediction- 130 odd tests, average of about 44. Most Aussie fans would take that.
