Farewell, Gump
STUART CLARK RETIRES from all competitive cricket.
He could have played more Tests, but he certainly played his part in Ashes 2006-7. A very skilful bowler, and occasionally entertaining hitter. He may have a successful future coaching career, I feel, unless he wishes to pursue accounting (I think it was) full time.

Re: Farewell, Gump
Yep, I think he might have been given more of a run earlier. Was he a worse option than the friendly ghost, for example?
Not saying he was similar in style, but his virtues were similar to Siddle's.

Re: Farewell, Gump
I thought he'd retired already, to be honest. Wasn't in Ponting's fan club (something to do with his IQ being above 50) and so therefore wasn't picked for Australia as often as he should have been.

Ashes '09 scapegoat. As we saw with Mitchell Johnson after then, they picked the right scapegoat. Shame for him though, could've been top.
Re: Farewell, Gump
Gump's treatment by Hildick was disgraceful.
Thanks for your efforts, Forrest.

Re: Farewell, Gump
Just checked him again, 93 wickets at 23odd. Yes, Hilqunt, he really deserved the dropping.
Re: Farewell, Gump
Hilditch has much to answer for.
Looking back and trying to be charitable ... unlike horrie, I don't think he was ALWAYS an utter qunt; indeed he may have been OK with selections initially ... but he was in the job for way too long and certainly lost the plot.
When does he get his OBE for services to English cricket?

Re: Farewell, Gump
Excellent, clever and unassuming bowler who just got on with things ... amazing that he faded away from the squad - but I'm guessing from the above posts, he was uncerimoniously moved on by Hilditch.

Re: Farewell, Gump
good bowler and a very sharp brain...hopefully CA organise an influential job for him...he'd be capable of being a great coach, umpire (like reiffel) or an administrator....maybe Gump could fix the ICC

Re: Farewell, Gump
Unlikely to have an official CA role I would have thought - he was never one of the boys.
He'll tootle along as GM of the Sixers and doing a bit of radio. That should give him some good experience for non-cricket admin jobs you'd think.

I still remember C4 forumming Aussies getting the arse over his selection for the 2005 Old Trafford test squad.
Unless i've just made that up. In which case, call for the men in white coats...

Re: Farewell, Gump
He was a pull a dubbers name out of a hat selection in 2005 when put on standby for the squad ...we were quite rightly pissed off at his selection ...
Like Hussey he was picked at the right time in his career ...

I watched his debut live at Cape town in 2006. Ripped through South Africa on a tricky pitch.

No, that happened. And I think he was playing county cricket at the time and pulling up no trees which had us Poms giggling into our neckerchiefs.
Turned out he was right decent.
