Speaking of wicket-keepers - England's bright young hope...
... has just been released by Yorkshire.
http://www.ecb.co.uk/news/domestic/wicketkeeper-wood-leaves-yorkshire,304502,EN.html
Geoff Boycott gave a shout out to Greg Wood last winter and claimed he was a "crackerjack" cricketer and potentially England's answer to the keeper-who-can-bat-like-a-batter-and-catch-like-a-non-spaz conundrum.
Couldn't dislodge a South African (Gerard Brophy) or a old country pro, Simon Guy, so has cut his losses and moved on.
Wonder if he'll get picked up by someone. And, if he actually turns out to be any good, I wonder how Yorkshire will justify hampering his development by having two players who will never play for England ahead of him in their pecking order.

Well done Yorkshire - another young talent down the toilet.
I wonder if Worcs. might be interested. We've got Josh Knappett as Davies' understudy, but with the distinct possibility that Davies might get an extended run in the ODI side at least there might be a temptation to at least have a look at Wood.

County cricket would have made him sh*t in the end anyway.

Steve Rhodes was a Yorkshire cast-off, wasn't he? Worked out well for Worcs, back in the day...

Was generally a bit sh*t for England though.

Aye, played one game for Yorkshire: couldn't get past David Bairstow though.

He had a poor tour to Oz: I think at one point he had conceded more byes than he's scored runs! A much better player than that generally though. I would put him slightly ahead of Stwewart but behind Russell in terms of his contemporaries.

It's because they've signed Jonathan Bairstow. 4 keepers is too many, even for Yorkshire. Wood must've been the first on the firing list. Guess they'll keep Brophy another season, then depending on Bairstow, bring him in, or another youngster. Guy's recovering from major surgery and is unlikely to play for a good while yet, but he's as second XI as they come, seemingly happy with an occasional trot out in the firsts, but mainly plays 2nds and club, and coaches keepers.

Isn't that a total indictment of county cricket? Your 2nd XI should be a young keeper not some nomark scratching out a few games here and there....

Pretty much. I'd suppose that sometimes he plays as a batsman to allow someone else to keep, but it's still beside the point.

Tha article doesn't sound like a firing, though.
I am not being naive - when it's not "by mutual consent", it's "the player's decision" - but could he have a Minor County set up? Like Glamorgan, Glos or Leics ...?

He's gone to Derbys, so he's already been scouted. Was arranged a few weeks ago I think.
