And he's probably right. There's every possibilty that Australia won't even make it past the group stage in the t20 wingding.

Not that I'll be complaininng, but I can't see why there isn't a specialist t20i squad picked.

"Given the ICC [International Cricket Council] have chosen to cash in on the excitement of Twenty20 and the potential revenues that can be made, then Australia or any country should treat it for what it is - it is a one-off tournament that will occur periodically in the world tournament schedule, and in my opinion has little to do with long-term developments of player squads, apart from the inclusion of possibly one or two under-19 or new players who are included for experience around an Australian environment," he said.

"As such, selections should be based on the best Twenty20 players of the time and be cognisant of tournaments before and after [the World Cup]."

He said Matthew Hayden, Gilchrist and Warne should have been considered, along with specialists such as Shane Harwood, Cameron White, Shaun Tait and Moises Henriques.

Mind you, he did also suggest that Hodge should've been chosen. But t20 is rapidly showing that it is the format which makes ordinary players look like world beaters. Ian Harvey, I'm looking at you...

As time goes by, it becomes more and more clear that Aus were so successful between 2000 and 2007 DESPITE of Buchanan, rather than because of him.

I was critical of the policy used for selection. There was no consistency. They left out Hughes, who'd be a natural for the game, but picked a bunch of Test players who are, on the whole, yet to achieve anything exciting in t20. Picking a team of the best t20 players would make sense, and I reckon Hughes would probably be one of them.

As I said taccy, a specialist t20 squad, with only a couple of Test/ODI players would've been great. Seeing TGM, tgm, Gilly, Haydos would ahve worked much better.

We've got SL and the WIndies in pool matches. Odds would have to suggest a strong possibilty we'll get flogged by both.
