KP targets Johnson
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/jun/26/ashes-kevin-pietersen-england-australia
He's the first English batsman to break ranks and officially taunt a potential opponent for the series. He has also declared he's now pain free. Gideon Haigh said this morning on "The Offsiders" that he thinks Pietersen is a bit of a drama queen who just has to be the centre of attention.

Wow, what a scoop by Haigh......Really shocking, revealing stuff.
He averages 50 in test cricket. That's all I care about.

BTW, I just noticed that the KP words were buried in another thread, so disregard.
Being a drama queen and a good cricketer aren't mutual exclusive Henry. Haigh is entitled to his opinion. KP has always been SA's loss and England's gain.

Yeah ..... bring it on ... roll on the Ashes ... the roar of the crowd as the bowler runs in for that decisive first ball ... second slips surprise at collecting it ... ... the revs on the ball ... the banter, the sledging (Aussies vow not to ... yeah, bo**ocks pull the other one) ... the nine ball over sprinkled with wides and no balls .... a postcard from home saying "Wish you were here" tucked into the bowlers flannel pocket .........
Oh wait ... the nightmare's over ... Harmi's up at Durham that week!
TFFT.
PS - Aye, the Johnno/KP ding-dong will be gripping stuff ... looking forward to it.

One of the commentators on a nightly sportshow on radio this week said it would be 'unAustralian' not to watch the first ball of the Ashes.

Wouldn't you trust Flintoff more as a keeper?

In his next 'exclusive' Gideon Haigh will be telling us that the contest between England and Australia are known as the Ashes.

Both of them look terribly out of form at the moment. I'll be really interested to see how Pietersen copes with the pressure of being the premere batsman in an important series, if fit. Last Ashes series down under wasn't too encouraging!

Ignoring the fact that Pietersen was England's leading batsman in that series, you're right..........

You lost 5-0, how encouraging could it possibly be?
Pietersen's a big match player, least of England's worries.

Re: KP targets Johnson
I must agree with everybody in that Kevin Pietersen's 963 runs @ 53.50 are very concerning as an indicator of how badly he is likely to do in the upcoming series. He has only been England's top run scorer in the last two Ashes series so will have to do an awful lot more this time around. I think Ian Bell should be in serious consideration to replace him for the Cardiff Test Match, personally. If not Bell then Vikram Solanki.

Re: KP targets Johnson
So you are in full agreement with me that Ian Bell should bat at 4? I think he lends a greater solidity to the side:
Strauss
Cook
Solanki (token Asian)
Bell (balls of steel)
Collingwood (wonderful entertainer, superb technique)
Prior (a top, top wicket-keeper)
Flintoff (batting all-rounder)
Broad
Swann (god)
Anderson (dependable swing bowler)
Panesar (genius)
I think we've just about got the selectors' Ashes XI there. I'm altering my prediction to 4-0 England with the crappy Test in Walesis(s)h(it)land being rained off. To be honest, the team I've set out above would probably win that match in three days but I don't want to sound arrogant.

KP targets the toilet bowl - pisses on the floor, would be the usual outcome of Kev's mindgame talk. He should stick to the on-its-merits shot selection stuff.

How many right angles would Johnson have to turn if KP was fit and healthy?
