Mark Ramprakash - An interesting fact and a trivia question.
Fact:
Rampers has increased his batting average by 32 runs per innings since moving across the Thames.
In all first-class matches his figures for Middlesex at Lord’s and Surrey at The Oval are:
Lord's: 80 matches, 133 innings, 19 not outs, 233 highest, 5959 runs, 52.2 average, 17 hundreds
The Oval : 41 matches, 66 innings, 9 not outs, 301* highest, 4806 runs, 84.31 average, 21 hundreds
Trivia:
How many people have matched Mark Ramprakash's achievement of averaging over 100 in first-class cricket in two separate seasons?

Well i'd have thought Bradman must have averaged over 100 quite often in a season considering his FC career average of over 95.
And Boycott definitely did it for an Australian season (i think it was 70/71) and I think i'm right in saying he averaged over 100 in an English summer season as well - on wickets considerably more testing than the Oval featherbeds of late.

Before I tell you, do you want to hear the story about the capon?

Re: Mark Ramprakash - An interesting fact and a trivia question.
Yes, here we are:
Geoff Boycott (1970/71) = 100.12
and again in (1979) = 102.53
Geoff Boycott (1970/71) = 100.12
and again in (1979) = 102.53
Re: Mark Ramprakash - An interesting fact and a trivia question.
Cor. I didn't ask for all that. I just asked whether you wanted to hear the story about the capon.
Anyway, the answer is only one person. Geoff Boycott. He averaged 100.12 in 1971 and 102.53 in 1979.
Bradman, Martyn, Gooch and Bill Johnston have all done it once.
Ramps is the only player ever to do it in successive seasons.

Re: Mark Ramprakash - An interesting fact and a trivia question.
Depends if you put a limit on innings played, Damien Martyn averaged 104.67 in 2001 and 171 in 2003, but in 2003 he only played 2 matches.
Re: Mark Ramprakash - An interesting fact and a trivia question.
I've got a feeling Bradman did it loads of times, but I can't be bothered to check how many.
He definitely averaged 115.67 in 1938, and to pick a random season (1929/30) he averaged 113.29

Re: Mark Ramprakash - An interesting fact and a trivia question.
I guess he meant English seasons, although in the question he just says 'seasons'. I'm sure that Australian fans (and other countries) would insist that their seasons are just as valid as English ones.
Boycott did it in 1971 and 1979 now i've checked. In the Australian season of 1970/71 he only averaged a piffling 95.94.
That still leaves Damien Martyn in 2001 and 2003, I guess he hasn't counted 2003 because he only played 3 innings.

.
Especially as some of the run totals that Bradman (and others) scored in Australian seasons would have been more than all but a few batsmen in the current English would score.

Symonds has been very careful where he shoves them since the incident on the eve of the 05 ODI series

I think you'll find that Frindall omitted the fact that he put a 20 game per season qualification on that piece of trivia. DGB only had the 38 season where he played both 20 matches and averaged 100+.

Re: Mark Ramprakash - An interesting fact and a trivia question.
Actually, I looked at the links and it seemed rather obvious that there had to be a qualification because any stat-head worth his salt knows DGB averaged over 100 in a season on many occasions.Zat wrote:skully in sticking up for festive stats guru shocker.
