So ... Bollinger or Siddle to sit this one out? Surely not Doherty ...

Bumble tipped England 3-1 on SSN this morning.
Must still be jetlagged.
Doubt England will take 60 wickets in the series, let alone over the course of three games.

The pundits have been going on about how green and seamer friendly the Gabba is. If they are to be believed the ball will swing round corners. Can't see it myself, I was there and even after some inept batting on Day 3 England managed to come back on Day 4 and score 293/5 in a day against McGrath, Lee, Clark and Warne.
The whole afternoon nothing much happened and Warne was made to graft hard to get Alastair Cook out.
So good luck to Broad, Hilfenhaus, Doherty, Jimmykins and co....

According to 'The Australian' Bollinger has been told he wont be playing.

Mistake IMO, Bollinger has been one of Australias gun performers in the last 12 months.

It will do a bit on the first morning. Will swing if it's cloudy. It'll have pace and bounce and be at its quickest on day 2.

Even if Clarke gets the OK to play as 'fit', there'd still have to be question marks over his wellbeing if he has to play a long innings. No way will the selectors take two players with fitnessqueries into this match.
Of course the thought of playing Bollinger and leaving Clarke out in favour of UK won't cross their minds.

I think they'd be a bit worried having the under pressure Hussey and North at four and five, with debutant Khawaja at six. That would make the Aus middle order look very fragile.
Clarke is still feeling discomfort but is getting almost almost round the clock treatment and pain killers. Can't see him playing beyond the age of 32 at this rate.

"pop goes the bogan"...only missing because of lack of bowling and doubts over fitness
while the wicket will be greenish - the key is the weather ...showers predict each day (my raindance could be working)...a greasy/wet ball (of the non minted variety) wil not swing

I have got a $20 wager that the test will finish on the fourth evening, so i'd prefer clouds throughout but no rain.

I'm sh!tting myself over the outcome of the toss, and that's even if we win it. To have a realistic chance of winning the series Aus simply has to win in Brissie. And batting first on a greeny would not be an ideal statrt to the campaign.

Skully, you'd be better off sh!tting yourself about the prospect of it being overcasst. If that's the case, Aust will bat regardless of who wins the toss. Unofrch, there's no Hayden this year to dominate the early proceedings.

Forecast seems to indicate mostly cloudy for the next 5 days with around 70% humidity.
Still, if Milf and Cot got first use of a deck with a bit of juice, and we can shot the Poms out for 200ish then it's better than us crashing and burning batting first.

I'm a bit surprised england haven't already named their XI, as a kind of statement to say, "Unlike you guys, we are settled."
Perhaps they're seriously considering Tremlett for Finn? Or dare I say it, Shehzad or Bresnan for Finn considering the conditions?

Interesting that the only change from the Aus XI that lost the ashes at The Oval last year will be Doherty for Stuart Clark.

Here's the pitch with thanks to Michael Vaughan. http://yfrog.com/5otomz
Don't know if the video will actually play but you get the idea.
A little bit of green but hardly looks a minefield.
