On the Jay Leno show, there's a segment 'Great White moments in Black History'.

Is Trev contributing to the script?

On Saturday Night Live, Eddie Murphy did a skit where he said the 'Emancipation Proclamation' was found to be illegal and everyone should grab the nearest 'nigger' and get them sweeping the porch. Apparently phone lines to the govt were swamped by people wanting to know if they could stop paying the maids wages.

Goodell expects more games to be played in Britain soon

Associated Press

LONDON -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell expects the league to start playing multiple regular-season games in Britain in the next few years -- an expansion that could lead to putting a franchise in London.

Goodell said Friday that "every indicator" shows the British market can support more games and that having a franchise here is of "tremendous interest" to the league. But he stopped short of giving a timeline for expanding the NFL's overseas presence.

"The interest and the enthusiasm for our game continues to grow, and we want to feed that," Goodell said. "We want to respond to that by hopefully bringing more to the UK."
Royal differences
The trip across the pond for the London game doesn't seem nearly as long as the path back to being a playoff contender for the Buccaneers, Vic Carucci writes. More ...

» Coverage from across the pond

Goodell spoke at a sports conference Friday ahead of Sunday's game between the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Wembley Stadium. It's the third year in a row the NFL is staging a regular-season game in London, and the league is now looking into playing at least two games a year in Britain, he said. Aside from London, Manchester and Glasgow, Scotland, are being looked at as potential venues.

"I expect that sometime in the next couple of years, we could be playing multiple games here," Goodell said. "If we brought more than one game here, and it continues to have the same kind of enthusiasm and growth of interest, I think that is about as good of an indicator you can get that it could successfully support a franchise. And that's what we're looking at."

Staging a Super Bowl abroad, however, "is not something that is under active consideration," Goodell said.

The league is considering expanding the regular season to 17 or 18 games, with a possibility for every team to play one game abroad. Patriots owner Robert Kraft said if the league wants more of the current franchises to travel internationally for games, the regular season should be extended so that teams can keep the same number of home games. The Bucs are giving up a home game this season.

"I'm not sure our fans would appreciate us giving up a regular-season (home) game, and I know I wouldn't like to do that. But eventually I think there's a chance of that if we expand the schedule," Kraft said.

Kraft said placing an NFL team in London "would be the right thing to do some time in the next decade."

Goodell said he would prefer a potential London-based team was a completely new franchise, rather than moving one from an existing market.

"We would like to keep all our teams where they are," he said.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady didn't sound too enthusiastic about playing for a team based in Europe.

"That would be challenging," Brady said. "But I don't see that happening any time soon."

The league is also eyeing having a team in Los Angeles again, especially after California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill this week allowing the construction of a 75,000-seat stadium that developers hope will lure an NFL team back to the Los Angeles area.

"I think there are some positive developments going on there," Goodell said. "But now we have to figure out how to pay for it. And in our economic system, that is a big challenge. It's at least an $800 million stadium."

He would not venture a guess as to what would come first, a team in London or Los Angeles.

"I don't know about the timing as far as the sequence," he said. "I would tell you that both markets are of tremendous interest to us."

Ah, nice to see some more NFL news in the proper thread.

Shame the Pats/Bucs game at Wembley isn't being broadcast in Aus though.

11 of the 12 playoff spots have been secured, New York Jets playing for their post-season right now.

From nfl.com
The NFC playoff picture is set, and the AFC’s is very close. The final AFC seedings will ultimately be settled when the Jets host the Bengals in the Sunday night game. Here’s where we currently stand in both conferences:

In the NFC …

New Orleans and Minnesota captured the top two seeds, respectively, and the first-round byes that come with them. In the divisional round of the playoffs on Jan. 16-17, the Saints will host the lowest remaining seed from the wild-card round and the Vikings will host the highest remaining seed.
Dallas won the NFC East and clinched the conference’s No. 3 seed by beating Philadelphia, and will host the sixth-seeded Eagles in the wild-card round next weekend.
Despite losing to Green Bay, Arizona finished as the No. 4 seed and, in a rematch from Week 17, will play host to the fifth-seeded Packers in the wild-card round.
In the AFC …

Indianapolis and San Diego enter the playoffs as the top two seeds, respectively. In the divisional round of the playoffs, the Colts will host the lowest remaining seed from the wild-card round and the Chargers will host the highest remaining seed.
Cincinnati will either be the third or fourth seed. If the Bengals beat the New York Jets Sunday night, they will eliminate the Jets to become the No. 3 seed, hosting sixth-seeded Houston next weekend in the wild-card round. If the Bengals lose, they will drop to the fourth seed and host the fifth-seeded Jets.
Baltimore, which beat Oakland, clinched a playoff berth and eliminated Pittsburgh in the process. The Ravens are also locked into a wild-card date with New England. If the Bengals beat the Jets, the Ravens will be the fifth seed and travel to play the fourth-seeded Patriots. If the Jets beat the Bengals, Baltimore drops to the sixth seed and would still travel to New England, which would then capture the third seed.
The Texans, who defeated the Patriots 34-27, need the Jets to lose to clinch a playoff spot. Houston, in that scenario, would slide into the No. 6 seed and travel to Cincinnati next weekend.

Jets currently 10-0 up.

Clearly deserved its own thread.

Can Trev ask one of his black mates if he finds the ad offensive (assuming of course that Trev's black mates are cricket fans)? As well explained by a representative of the Caribbean community in Aus on the Nooz, "people who are offended by this ad do not understand the context of Aus v WI international cricket."

Stoopid seppo radio and cable TV honkies actually raised the concerns initially (after seeing the clip in Ewetyoob), then the Af-Ams got on the bandwagon. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, KFC is laughing all the way to the bank. Free international coverage cheers

I remember fondly my old man telling me how the endless din from the large West Indian contingent (steel drums, whistles and anything that could make noise) during the 1975 World Cup Final nearly drove him bonkers, as he sat up through the wee small hours watching that classic unfold.

Where was the Aussie with the bucket of KFC then? Cool

So there were people upset about that KFC ad, even though the West Indies cricket team, for years, had sponsorship deals with KFC? Can Iran please hurry up and get their nukes finished and wipe the US off the map? FFS...
