Change war memorials to honour Harry Patch
Many war memorials were built shortly after WW1 and their inscriptions usually reflect this fact with words about glory and sacrifice etc. which sound impressive, and were presumeably meant to help people get their heads round all the dreadful slaughter and loss they had just been through. However, now, with so much time gone by, it would surely be appropriate to smooth off those high-handed inscriptions and replace them with the words of the last fighting Tommy, the great Harry Patch:
"War is organised murder and nothing else."
"War is organised murder and nothing else."

War memorials do tend to be curiously pro-war.

Yes, perhaps they should build them before the fighting even begins. At least that way they might still remember what they're about to start doing it for.

Isn't that a bit of a non-sequitur?

Well...you'd be honouring his views, gained from his experience, rather than his war service itself.

Or perhaps a War(ne) memorial. Maybe a big tub of lard spinning on a plinth.

With statues of clueless Gatt and Strauss on conveyer belts walking away from the plinth, which could be designed to look like some demolished stumps.
