In honour of an absent mate - how grouse is Fleas?
2nd chance has been great
"It was fitting that Simon Katich was named Australia's Player of the Match in their 150-run win over Pakistan at Lord's. He is the team's reigning Test Player of the Year, he has scored more runs than any other player in Test cricket over the past two years, and there hasn't been a Test since Headingley last August in which he has failed to post at least a half-century.
But despite his remarkable consistency, match honours have tended to elude Katich. Only twice in his career has he been named Player of the Match; once in Bridgetown in June 2008, in the third match of his comeback to the Test side, and at Lord's this week for his innings of 80 and 83. This time he even had to share the award with Salman Butt.
Not that such trinkets mean much to Katich. He's spent long enough out of the Test team over the past decade to appreciate his position. When he was recalled at the age of 32 on the tour of the Caribbean two years ago and turned into a makeshift opener due to an injury to Matthew Hayden, Katich knew that he had to grab every opportunity and treat each game as if it would be his last.
"That's been a big part of my philosophy since I got back in," Katich said after the Lord's win. "I knew it was going to be tough to get back in at my age. I've just tried to really enjoy it because it probably wasn't expected. From that point of view I haven't put too much pressure on myself and I've just tried to enjoy each Test match and enjoy winning Test matches.
"That's part of our tradition of playing in the baggy green is to win Test matches. I've been through both eras of Australian cricket, where we were so dominant for so long and now the goal is to get us back up to No. 1. Hopefully we're on our way to doing that."
-------------------------------------------------
I know horrie will be twitching with excitement at Fleas' continued excellent form. That's now 9 straight Tests that the mighty Dubber has managed a 50.
Commencing with the Oval Test in Ashes 09, Katich has managed 1060 runs at 66.25 with 2 x 100s and 9 x 50s. The only annoyance to him would be the fact that in those 9 50s 7 of them have been scores of 80 or more. He'd be peeved that he hasn't converted more of them into 3 figures.
How grouse is the mighty Katiche (as Warnie calls him)?

He really should have played for another two years, and probably captained. Paradoxically we nurse our ageing bowlers with muscle injuries and worse back into the team, yet we permanently 'ease out' our most reliable batsman at the first sign of an injury, at the behest of a grudge-bearing toxic piece of shit; never mind that he was batting better on one leg at the time of this 'career-ending injury' than the rest of our top 6 on two legs.

Fleas is a regular on the sports radio station I listen to in Melbourne. He is obviously very close to cbnlg and campaigned for his elevation as national coach.
He remains bitter about Clarke although still fudges on whether he has any regrets about the choking incident. It seems clear he is not apologetic.
Since the cbnlg elevation Fleas regularly defends the coach and all selection decisions. He is single minded in his support for the Marsh kids and would be delighted to see Mitch given a chance during the Ashes.

At the least, when Fleas opens his mouth, he demonstrates some intelligence and a capacity for critically fair analysis.
When Clarke opens his festering gob, he demonstrates little but insightless hubris, entitlement, rat-with-a-gold-tooth materialistic values; in short - endless ******. It's no wonder he has fallen in with Chappelli. Both are self-absorbed tyrannical little shits.

...but other than that he's ok?

I have to say I'm a bit concerned about the wellbeing of our crusty old mate, horrie.
He hasn't looked in on this place since early August. His absence during the Swans run to the GF is a bit of a tell-tale to me.
He hasn't responded to PMs from me. Perhaps the ravages of time and ill-health have taken their toll.

Good times then, but not now. If horrie could respond, I’m sure he would.

Nope. Cats clearly superior. We reached the GF well ahead of what I thought possible. The season was good fun with the kids showing plenty of promise.

Re: In honour of an absent mate - how grouse is Fleas?
Very gracious horrie. My mob peaked unexpectedly, and did so late. Mid-season we were merely a mid table side. The GF was an unexpected display of teamwork and skill with the youth and lesser lights of the side (Atkins, Kolo, Zach G, Miers, Bews, De Koning and Henry) playing out of their skins ... by no means was the performance reliable on the usual ‘stars’ Hawk, Cameron, Duncan, Paddy, Selwood et al. Sydney should be near the top again next year.

Re: In honour of an absent mate - how grouse is Fleas?
Hasn't he farked up Deluxe??
Applied an $8/monthly premium to Twitter's allegedly authenticating Blue Tick system but overnight had dozens of Blue Ticked fake accounts posting Fake News.
What a boob.
I'm currently mildly stressing that I didn't buy a plane ticket to England (for my annual visit to the youngest sprog) back in September when it was under $1,400. The cheapest I can get now is in the low $2,000s.
But that pales into massive insignificance to Musk's very ordinary US$68 Billion "investment' In Twatter. Also the Crypto guru Sam Bankmen-Fried has lost US$16 Billion after his Crypto exchange FTX went bankrupt.
