Political Correctness gone mad
Apparently, under new UK legislation the word 'gypo' has been deemed racist and derogatory and, ergo, made illegal.
They now have to be called Caravan Utilizing Nomadic Travellers. Today, a spokesperson for the C.U.N.T.s commented that, 'the perception of travellers as lazy, scrounging, thieving ne'er-do-wells is completely unjustified. The banning of the stereotypically generic word 'gypo' would contribute to positively changing the public's misconception of the travelling population'.

F*ck. 170k words into my book and one of the key words becomes politically incorrect. C*nt faces. Big massive c*nt faces.
But seriously, it'll be alright. It's not racist. But let's be clear on this - I do hate Gypsies. And I have good right to having been f*cked over by the only two bands I've encountered. A 100% c*nt rate is about 8% higher than I'm used to in the general population.

So you write books about and have dealing with "travelling people"?
Outside of Jason Gillespie I don't think I've ever met a gypsy.

Django Reinhardt was a gypsy, and that's good enough for me. Total guitar genius in spite of (or actually because of) a left hand which was badly burned in a caravan fire.

By the time you'd asked for Caravan Utilizing Nomadic Travellers Guts medicine in the pharmacy, you'd already crapped all over the floor...Jontyh wrote:Apparently, under new UK legislation the word 'gypo' has been deemed racist and derogatory and, ergo, made illegal.

You've lost me there, Mynah. Try as I might to connect Pykies with a visit to the apothecary and having a shit, I'm drawing a blank.

Gorgeous guitarist. Some of his stuff was played at my bro's wedding.
We ran into French gypsies at the Eiffel Tower, headed by a very young girl who handed us a note asking if we spoke English. When we said yes, she gave us another note which read, we need money and emuchavya got? We shook our heads and were surrounded by another Five who'd materialised out of nowhere and who were angry, aggressive. A couple of the Many armed guards at the Tower shooed them off. It was a tad scary at the time though. My first and only experience of gypsies.
You needed to know all that, I realise.

Where I work, saying P***y could get you excluded from site. At least, they'd send you on Diversity training.
There has been a Gypsy camp down the end of my parents' road for about forty years. Most of them have built houses on it. They're never any bother.

I'll wager they never got planning permission !

Marginally different to the pikeys we were plagued with every year at my previous house.
The village common behind my fence was a sh!t-heap for the one week they stayed (generally 8 caravans, 46 kids and 10 rabid dogs amongst the entrouage) and when they were inevitably forcibly evicted, the mess and stench they left behind rivaled that which you witness at an amenity site (local dump) on a hot afternoon.
A few years ago the pikey group clashed on-site with the local Travelling Fair (a regular annual feature) who had turned up to ready their pitch. The confrontation between the respective groups of men was a sight to behold as lead pipes and crowbars were weilded randomly until the pikey leader very soon "surrendered". The police happened to be late arriving at the scene, turning up just as the pikeys were hooking up their caravans to their Lexus, Audi and Range Rover 4x4's before legging it to pollute yet another unsuspecting village site.
Never saw them back in the village again .... funny that!

Absolutely magical. "Nuages" is probably my favourite, or one of the Quintet de Hot club de France's fast swinging numbers like "Dinah".footwork wrote:ever hopeful wrote:Django Reinhardt was a gypsy, and that's good enough for me. I once saw Stephan Grapelli in concert, about 25 years ago it must have been. He was fantastic too (Django was long dead by then of course). A lot of french bands still play that strings based kind of jazz. I love it.

Yeah, the proper Gypsies hate that lot. Gives them a bad name.
