Is it? Would be funny if the Snoozers won it, particularly with an injury-weakened side... on paper they're competing with England to be the second weakest team in it. Just proves that most of the better sides just didn't really turn up for this.
Expect Australia to win comfortably, I think they have the advantage of having played a month of one-day cricket whereas most of the other sides have turned up with little preparation. They're not what they were a few years ago but they've got one of the best batsmen in the world at the peak of his form and a couple of wicket-taking bowlers, and that's probably enough.

Yeah Aussies will prolly cakewalk it. But would be hilarious if NZ win it, I'll be cheering them on all the way.
Anyway, given the Aussie - NZ needle, it's IMO a more interesting final than Aus-Pakistan

I'll be routing for the Kiwi's in this one. It would keep the forum quiet in terms of ODI's and stuff, seeing as there's no-one of NZ origin on here.

Do the two countries compete in one-day cricket for the "Trevor Chappell Trophy"? If not, they should do!furriner wrote:Anyway, given the Aussie - NZ needle, it's IMO a more interesting final than Aus-Pakistan

I thought sheep-router (sic) and kiwi were interchangeable. So we surely have atleast one kiwi on here?

If Australia wins it means it will have won the last four major tournaments in the ODI formats.
Punter boasted in the press this morning that he prides himself on big matches and that Australia has an aura in them.
http://www.theage.com.au/news/sport/cricket/pontings-men-firing-in-big-games/2009/10/03/1254418753833.html
''When the Australian team took the field I think we had a different sort of energy and aura about us than we probably have for a while,'' Ponting said after sending England home with a nine-wicket hiding. ''That's my job, as an experienced player and leader, to make sure the guys get into that frame of mind as well. I pride myself on big games and I think all us experienced players do. It's up to players like myself to set the example and lead from the front. Most of our experienced guys did that for us today, when it mattered.''
He also believes that Australia has done well considering injuries to key players but wants a lift for the final.
It could be lopsided as NZ as relied a bit on winning the toss at the Wanderers in lead-up matches in bowling-friendly conditions and then allowing the seamers to rout the opposition. It's hard to see this being as effective against Australia as it was against England and SL.

Yeah, but we still must be shite as we did'nt get a single player in the ICC ODI team of the year.

And I'd swap all 4 for the Ashes.Big Dog wrote:Red wrote:If Australia wins it means it will have won the last four major tournaments in the ODI formats.

Kudos to Ponting today - he said that winning the ICCCCCCCT wouldn't come close to making up for losing the Ashes.

Probably a bad thing for the future of ODIs if Australia wins.
If this was a final between India and England, the forum would be crawling with enthusiastic posts about how the ICCTC has really revitalised the format.

Getting an England vs India final would probably require a really revitalised format...Invader Zim wrote:Probably a bad thing for the future of ODIs if Australia wins.
