Why is Steyn so carp against England?
I'm probably calling the thunder here.... but he averages 44 against us in tests and 79 in JAMODIs.
He looks world class against everyone else. What is going on?

Perhaps he has a soft spot for the Poms.

It's really strange, but it's almost as if certain bowlers in the World try to hard against England, or they overestimate them.
Steyn v Australia = Steyn
Steyn v England = England
Steyn v Australia = Steyn
Steyn v England = England

Bung being the other obvious one.

Bung was mostly crap, regardless of the opposition.

Pommy batsmen aren't good enough to nick his outswingers

Mate, Ian Bell is good enough to edge anything to slip.

Re: Why is Steyn so carp against England?
Bell's edges are deliberately dropped until he has made a "nice" 40 to stop the poms replacing him with Ramps

Re: Why is Steyn so carp against England?
I'm sure it has something to do with Steyn having played for the Essex Wideboys.
He's tainted by that association, and none of the England batsmen fear him as a result.

Does that mean that Cosgrove is virtually invisible to England?

Re: Why is Steyn so carp against England?
Well, the fact he'd played 9 FC matches when he first played us is quite a chunk of the reason that he averages 44 in Tests versus us.

I know, I know. The thing is, Rob likes to possibly see 20 seconds on the news or read a single article and then cast as many aspersions that come into his head. He doesn't like cricket - he likes 'cricket'.
Re: Why is Steyn so carp against England?
But I don't think he likes "creek-itt".

He was actually utter sh!t for us, got spanked to all parts. Worse than Hugh Page was as an overseas signing for us....
Not even the glow of glory of playing for Essex could make him perform

Fair if partial answer, because it doesn't explain how he failed to rip up trees against us in the 2008 series, three years into his career.
And why did he average 60-odd in the Anglo-SA ODIs in 2008, oh wise follower of cricket instead of 'cricket' ?

Re: Why is Steyn so carp against England?
Well, watching the matches (shock horror - that's what some of us do! Outlandish, grandiose and ostentatious I know) he didn't bowl badly but he didn't bowl brilliantly and then got injured. Then he was coming back from injury.
Re: Why is Steyn so carp against England?
He looked a little out of sorts all tour - but I've no doubt he's a quality bowler who would walk into England's team.
Though still tainted by his association with Essex.
