Holy carp. Did Jumbo really say that?
Jumbo does a Woodfull
"Indian captain Anil Kumble revived memories of Bill Woodfull's infamous Bodyline statement 75 years earlier when he said: “Only one team was playing in the spirit of the game”.
This is an astounding statement to make, and will surely have far-reaching consequences. It cannot go unanswered by Australia's cricket authorities, who will be obliged to defend the team's honour. The remainder of the series could well be in jeopardy."
Yikes. talk about fuel on the fire.

Re: Holy carp. Did Jumbo really say that?
He's dropped a fair bit in my eyes with that extraordinary whinge.
I was able to watch the pak vs India series and no joke they were appealing for lbw when it went of the middle of the bat.
the Indians were on top crowding the bat and got some things go their way...that's test cricket.

As evidenced by the thread title, I'm shocked that he'd say that. He may as well have thrown in that Roy is a monkey.

Time for eryone to take a deep breath and sleep on it methinks. A very unfortunate comment from Kumble - assuming that he has been quoted correctly - and most unlike him.

So can we now expect telegrams at 40 paces between the BCCI and CA??

India have to go away and regroup otherwise they will implode and lose four nil, which would be undeserved.

Re: Holy carp. Did Jumbo really say that?
The best way to regroup IMHO is to bring in new players.
It's definitely a huge risk but nevertheless a good risk. Tendulkar, and Laxman might be rested. I have a strong feeling about it.

Re: Holy carp. Did Jumbo really say that?
Just like Kumble, Woodfull wasn't known for running off at the mouth either but everybody has their limit. And given the usual inertia of the ICC, a bit of noise from an unexpected source might goad the powers-that-be into at least making a more convincing impression of being pro-active.

And yet it is an Indian who was cited for racially abusing an opposition player.

Yes...team that has spent the last 30 years verbally abusing everyone doesn't take too well to a bit of criticism shock.

Jebus, imagine if SRW had've said this in India in 2001 after some of the dubious calls made in Bhajji's favour (his hattrick had two dodgy calls) in T2 and T3. India would've launched a nuclear strike on Aus, FFS.

Re: Holy carp. Did Jumbo really say that?
lol was going to mention that skully.
bansal was him name, gunned three of our batsmen in the 4th innings.
But of course that was a great series and not a controversial one because India benefited from the mistakes.

Re: Holy carp. Did Jumbo really say that?
Sage pdy. As I recall, we sucked it up and graciously congratulated our subi mates. To be fair, furry and others have done that, but not without venting their spleens at Aus integrity. Forgive me, but that just sh!ts me to tears. Vent at Benson and Edges (fair enough), but to sook about how we play the game just reeks of whining.please don't yell wrote:lol was going to mention that skully.

It was already established long ago that it's perfectly ok for Australia to abuse other teams without response.
