Has the Australian flag..
..got a big purple 3 on it yet?
Ffs, I was watching last night and to endure a full Johnno over being talked over by Tubby fawning all over its marketing manager. I couldn't quite make out any slurping sounds, but it's only a matter of time.
Why do the commos have to be so sycophantic?

Well, yeah - of course. We've had sponsorship for years, but I've never seen anything as obtrusive and irritating as that. I thought Sky's constant self-promotion was annoying enough, but I was ready to blow my own brains out after an hour of it combined with all that 3Mobile guff.

The British market for advertising is known for being extremely unusual in the public's utter hatred of advertising and intolerance of it. That's why the amount of advertising per hour is lower here, and also why straight promotion rarely works. It's also why British advertising agencies are known for being the best in the world - because they have to work in a market that hates being advertised to. So you get all the really clever stuff that often involves barely mentioning a product (the Comparethemarket.com campaign which actually promotes comparethemeerkat.com instead) or something focusing on the negatives, such as the Marmite campaigns.
It's very, very, very weird here, unlike anywhere else. It's also why it jars so much when companies try multi-national campaigns and dump them into the UK - because they're normal in most places, and unusual here.

Interesting. So that's why the Aussies are unfussed and probably wondering why I'm bleating like a big girl about it then. Funny that: you're right - 3 would be the last network I'd buy time with, on a resistance principle.

FWIW, in Aus 3 was (and I think still is) the smallest of the telcos. In Aus the operators of three (Hutchison) and vodafone actually merged not too long ago.
I suspect one of the reasons why the prize from three for MoTS was a 'donation to the player's charity of choice' is so they could claim tax-deductability for it. I don't know if three is doing all that well...

As I understand it, they only merged their operations - presumably to reduce costs in half. So the sales and marketing of the different brands would remain separate?

Shoey, I don't know. And I'm not a customer of either, so not likely to worry about it much either.

Not something i'd worry about either. But it was noticeable that 3 were a big no no cost wise when I was down (I'm on Vodafone).

I get depressed when the bastards won't pay. And that's a real problem at the moment.

Er yes, it does doesn't it? I might have phrased that better thinking about it.
