Which Test nation homes the most "ATGs"? Empty Which Test nation homes the most "ATGs"?

Post by DJ_Smerk Tue 09 Mar 2010, 14:20

This is isn't about SRT > BCL, but more along the lines of which Test nation has the highest ATG count.

I imagine there are several factors to look at when accumulating a list: -

1) Length in the Test arena [England and Australia are likely to have more ATG's than South Africa] Then again if you take into account the 1990s, England barely produced any G's let alone ATG's - during that period - (refer to number [3+5] if you have a problem), yet, South Africa produced a large majority.
2) Player Turnover [Opportunities for players in particular eras]
3) It's very much subjective to actually depict who is an ATG and who is not.
4) Past knowledge of players from the pre-war era and decades after, for young people like me, impossible to even pick out a decent XI from the pre-war era that didn't include a Bradman, a Hammond, or a Sutcliffe.
5) Underrated greats, overrated greats.

The Aussies rarely, if ever, lack a player of high calibre in their team. Historically one would have to say England, WI and SA. They've been playing international cricket the longest. It's all subjective as to whom is great and otherwise.

True, I just thought it was interesting to see which country had the highest talent ratio.

Seems very likely that Australia will come out on top, as I can't think of a time when they didn't produce someone who we still talk about today. (Well not me personally, but the Australian contingent).

In terms of ATG's per square mile Barbados definitely rules the roost Very Happy. In fact one village produced the 3 W's.

Sweet sweet T & T is shamefully lagging behind in this regard, BCL stands alone.

Aye - on a population count, the Windies dominate.

I think only Barbados could compete with NSW in a AT XI Provincial series. In such a match, I think Bradman and O'Reilly would tip the balance to NSW but it would be a magical clash.

No probs. Of players who you would actually use, we can probably give you Simmo.

That's fine. You team might now give our second XI a decent run. You might want to keep MacGill though if it is played at the SCG.

Phurt. If that were the case I'd be keeping Gilly and telling him that even when David Warner leaves NSW he still qualifies for us.

Fot Clem Garth and Chook are a decent bowling attack ....and Roo and Locky would be ahead of MacDubber at the SCG anyway
