Time for a 2 tier test system, with one up and one down at the end of each year.

About two months ago you were saying Pakistan had the best pace attack in world cricket.

They may still do. It counts for nothing however when they have the shittest batting lineup in world cricket.

Yeah Zat, I would love to see a 5 test Aus/SA series but you know the problems there.

SA/Eng was supposed to be five but somewhere there was a stuff up.

The biggest problem in cricket is the mismatches.

The rankings system needs to be applied in some way to minimise the number of mismatches.

Here's n off-the-cuff suggestion that might work.

Keep the FTP in place, but bring in some rules as to the length of series between sides, with the length of the next series between two teams to be decided on the rankings 12-14 months in advance (instead of up to 6 years.)

Teams within the top 4 should always play 5 or 6 Test series against each other.

Teams within 2 rankings spots of their oppposition should play 3 or 4 Tests ina series.

Teams further apart than that should be limited to one-off Tests or two-Test series.

ODIs - no more than the number of Test in the accompanying series.

No more than 5 matches in standalone series.

t20s - one or two per series as per current arrangements.
.

Sounds sensible to me...therefore ljh will never back it

Test cricket needs to go where the crowds are. It looks shit played in an empty stadium.

Since you made this post, Henry, what changes have occurred, in your opinion?

I'd contend that Australia, India, England, and NZ (in no particular order) now form the 'top' four, with South Africa amazingly slip/sliding out of this group towards the bottom group and Pakistan rising to take their place; leaving WI, Sri Lanka, and the Bangles drowning in the bilges.

Nothing amazing about it. I forecast it some time ago.

South Africa are still a good team. They still have AB, Amla, de Kock, Steyn, Rabada, and Morne. In all likelihood they should still beat NZ......

They look great on paper but their performances have slipped. I am not sure whether they still belong in the top 4-5 or whether they have dropped to be the leading team of the bottom 4-5. NZ seem more consistent at present and at this very moment SA would really struggle to beat England, India, or Australia.

Do you still see them as a top 3 team?

They'll be all right.

They may even get another dose of the Mace if Aus falter.

And unless Warney beats them to it.
