They didn't say anything about the wides and no-baals on the Beeb's website!

Re: Harmison warming up in SA
Stuart Broad's a better bowler and bat, and plays for Notts., so why bother with the wimpy tourist whatsoever if he can't land the ball on the track?
I'd even rather pick Tremlett than Harmison.

First bowl in about four months, though. Cut him a little slack - at least he took a couple of wickets.
He is out there, after all, to get some overs under his belt.

'Harmison warming up in SA' title may have a little something to do with it.
He's playing for the Lions against the Cobras

Plunkett bowled second change for the Dolphins behind Jon Kent, who is a 75 mph trundler. It's safe to say his career has taken a dive in the last 12 months. I think he has a lot of potential, but these next 8-12 months will be a great test of his character, and will probably determine whether he's got the mettle to be an international cricketer, or whether he falls off the scene completely.

What makes you think I had Warney in mind when I mentioned "Full scorecard"?Hilda wrote:mynah wrote::?:JKLever wrote:Hmmmmm

3 wickets, but up to 12 wides now!
Check the "weak" front arm as identified by Michael Holding last year. Same old problem, no balance, no rhythm.

Nothing changes ....
Yet you'll find the Harmless supporters pointing to his "pace" and those 3 wickets in this innings ... whilst conveniently overlooking the fact that those extras conceded 22 additional runs, compelling him to bowl an additional 4 overs (almost) on top of it all !
Like I said ... nothing changes!

Well, whatever you girls say he's hardly that bad in Tests in terms of wides and no-balls much of the time - the odd shambles taints him. But lets all leap on him and get the poison out. After all, his 4 month lay off should be seen as a blessing rather than the rhythm-halting soujourn it was.
Re: Harmison warming up in SA
Oh. Just seen the score.
What a c unt. I hate him. Tw@t.

Re: Harmison warming up in SA
Meh.... I think he should tour but giving away 23 extras is pathetic!
you must've missed those copious 5 wide balls he delivered in his last few tests

No. Agreed that he's bowled up some filth. All I'm saying is, a pure rhythm bowler(and he is nothing else) needs rhythm. He gets rhythm and muscle memory by bowling overs. To expect him to not be bowling some sh!t after a long lay-off, when half-rhythmical he does anyway, is quite silly.
I just personally don't like the bitter, disgruntled sh!t on this thread. Because you've got to be one helluva c unt to be still blaming him for the Ashes 06/07(like it was all his fault anyway).
He bowled with a hernia throughout the start of the season and hasn't had a decent run since India '06.
Re: Harmison warming up in SA
To be fair, I don't see any blaming of the Ashes 06/07 here.... just moaning about his radar!

I still blame Gilo for dropping Ponting, crucially, at Adelaide though.JKLever wrote:To be fair, I don't see any blaming of the Ashes 06/07 here.... just moaning about his radar!
As for Harmie - well, he just bowled tosh (bar at Perth I think) whilst his mate Freddie tidied things up at t'other end.
All this chat about being a rythym bowler ... Jeezussss ... let's just face it - when he's hot he's close (but never quite) brilliant.
But, and it's a huge BUT, sadly - he CANNOT be depended upon to do it with the necessary regularity that is demanded of a fast bowler.
Should he tour? IMO I don't think he should.
He's a lose cannon and can no longer be classed as Englands main strike bolwer after Fred.... there are three others that warrant respect more than Harmisson right now on SL wickets that won't do the guy any favours.

Re: Harmison warming up in SA
What's Harmisons average since his golden year of 2004.....About 38?
He's too much work. Maybe if he's got some overs under his belt and the stars are aligned correctly, he might produce some high quality fast bowling for a 30 minute period in a game. Im sick of this attitude where it's seen as 'crucial' that Harmison is on song for England to win test series. There are at least 5 fast bowlers in England who are better than him.
Tremlett came in and whilst he wasnt quite as quick as Harmison, he found a good length and the Indian batsmen found him awkward. But he's been dropped in the 'hope' that Harmison will magically 'click' and bowl England to victory in Sri Lanka. As if.
