It's a loud burp. Or alternatively a religious ruling - perhaps one that called for a Jihad.

Mundine is a Blue. If Indig players boycotted the match, Qld would be without Thurston, Inglis and Thaiday whereas the Blues would only lose Lehroyd-Lars.

Re: SoO Game 2
Joey is a goose. That is not in dispute. We've known it for years and lived with it because of his footballing genius.
Tahu is a disgrace. He has let his team-mates down by walking out on them just days before the most important match of the year to date.
He might think he's being some big man of principle. Bullshit. He is being disloyal to his team-mates and his state.
The NRL/ARL/NSWRL have official channels to deal with complaints. They do take complaints about racial slurs seriously these days. The correct thing to do would be to lodge a complaint AFTER Origin II.
He could even have leaked the complaint to the press and written a column along the lines of "I almost quit Origin over Joey's racist slurs". That would still have brought a storm of media attention to the issue - it just would have done so without leaving his team-mates and his state in the lurch.

IN the end, Hass, it's another storm in a teacup from a code that is dying.

Phurt. This is getting so much coverage because the sport is still the runaway number one game in NSW and Queensland.
Storms in teacups are a big deal in Rugby League because of the game's popularity. Just as Chris Judd f@rting is big in Victoria, or Wayne Rooney popping one of his pimples is big in England.
Andrew Johns being a bonehead and triggering a hissy fit from Timana Tahu is big in New South Wales.
I suspect it will always be thus.

Johns is a goose but Tahu is a disgrace? So he should have sucked it up one more time & then reported it to Craig Young or Geoff Carr? Are you serious Hass?
The team mates thing goes two ways. WTF were the team mates when Johns made the remark & wtf didn't they throw Johns out a window in support of their mate?
Imagine if he played a poor game & then reported it. Wouldn't that have been received in a positive and constructive light?

You bet he should have sucked it up one more time! Timana Tahu was not playing for Andrew Johns (and the assistant coach is merely a glorified water boy in any case). Tahu was playing for the state of New South Wales.
Tahu has made a considered decision, knowing that his actions would throw NSW preparations into disarray. It's rep football. You don't have to like everyone on your team. The idea is that you subsume yourself for the good of the whole. You can take a stand (and should take a stand) without taking your bat and ball and going home. But Tahu has taken his bat and ball and gone home - it tells me he's not serious about being a footballer.
Let me clarify my description of Johns. He is a disgrace and has been for a long time. I think goose is a particlurly apt description of Johns, but that doesn't preclude him from being a disgrace as well. He's an insensitive egotist. I didn't mean to appear to be going soft on him.

Downplaying Johns' role within the structure is something I'd expect from some half wit League "official". He was there to mentor and influence.
You know, if Tahu walked out after his team mates had shown solidarity with him (by throwing Johns out of a window) then I would question his committment to the cause. Players withdraw from teams at the last minute all the time. It's a fact of life. This withdrawal came 5 days before the freaking game. Hardly just before the whistle. The fact that he left it for 24 hours says to me that he carefully considered his decision. If something toxic had of been welling up inside me for years I guarantee I wouldn't be in the right mental state to perform at my best.
Btw, you didn't address my questions about directing his grievances to clowns like Geoff Carr or going through with the game and lodging his complaint after the contest.
Thanks for clarifying the "goose" angle.

skully wrote:Still pretty soft of Tahu to flounce off if that's what was said. Sure, it's tacky and totally classless by Joey to have said it, but I reckon Tahu would've lost count of the number of times he's been called that on the footy park.
If he was fair dinkum, he would've just snotted Joey and said, "next time, I won't just rearrange your face, I'll break your neck."
Never looked like he was really interested in playing for the Blues and has used this as a get-out-of-gaol-free-and-avoid-the-embarrassment-of-another-Maroon-hiding card.
I disagree S...AFL cleaned its act up on the race issue ages ago..Michael Long and Nicky Winmar really took on the race issue in AFL - the game has prospered as a result - not least through more Indigenous players playing the game and thrilling fans..
people like Goodes, McLeod and O'loughlin are respected for their talents and contributions on and off the field and set terrific examples for indigenous (and non Indigenous) kids everywhere.
I hope Tahu takes this on...he should be supported

H, the post above was made when all that was known was Joey had called someone a "black qunt". It now transpires (as you'll see in subsequent posts) that it was one of many outbursts by the idiot Novacastrian.
I still think Tahu is soft and never really wanted to play for NSW, but I support his stand 100%, and I still think he should've broken Joey's neck to teach the farker a lesson.

Re: SoO Game 2
the point has been made by several commentators on the Johns racism affair that the Blues have historically underselected Aboriginal players compared to the Chips...is this a fair point?
odd that the chips are seen to be more progressive than the roaches

Dunno.
But one of the articles in one of yesterday's rags was saaying how some players 'chose to play for Queensland because they treat their indigenous players better'.
Which kind of makes a joke of the whole State of 'Origin' concept.
But then again, it's leeeeg, where rules are not made to be enforced. Except when someone feels like it.

I can't think of many Indig players who were screwed by the Blues selectors. To be honest, I wouldn't even know that many players are Indig or not (I didn't know that Lehroyd-Lars was one until the weekend).
Of the current bunch, the likes of Soward and Sutton might have small cases for NSW five eighth but not obviously superior ones to Barrett. Ditto Merritt on the wing.

Isn't one of the selectors indigenous?
