MCC wants day/night tests now! Empty MCC wants day/night tests now!

LONDON: The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) World Cricket Committee fears for the future of Test cricket unless action is taken quickly to promote the traditional format and has called for the immediate introduction of day-night matches to boost the game in countries where attendances are low.

“I (David Morgan) talked to administrators in Australia whom I expected to be so conservative as to be against day-night Test cricket but they are very much for it,” he said. “I believe it won’t be too long before we see day-night Test cricket in Australia or India.”

There's also a call for a better balance between bat and ball.

The world cricket committee also said that it was vital that Test match pitches offered a fair balance between bat and ball to maintain interest levels. They cited the surfaces in Bangladesh as a poor example for the game, while recently in St Kitts West Indies and South Africa played a Test that was an inevitable draw from very early. “The MCC’s research from India, New Zealand and South Africa, published in November 2009, showed that the cricketing public in these countries wanted to watch day-night Test cricket and were strongly in favour of a World Test Championship,” an MCC statement said. “Fairer pitches, such as the ones England recently encountered in South Africa – which offered bounce and some assistance to the bowlers – rather than in Bangladesh – which were low, slow and batsmen-friendly – would also help to improve the game as a spectacle.”

In June and July it would be perfectly possible to play tests in natural light until 8pm, and there really is no excuse for this not having been at least trialled. It's also quite possible that we will adopt Central European Time (BST +1) in the not too distant future, which would make floodlights largely redundant except at the start and end of the season.

I've long wondered why - especially in countries where the light is good enough to play well past 6pm at some times - the hours of play stayed ith the 6pm finish. Or indeed in Australia, where due to the incompetence of generations of players and the ICC to do anything about slow over rates, the official time for stumps in many places is 5.30pm. When play could continue for a good 90 minutes or more in mid summer.

It's not rocket science. But then again, these are cricket adminisrators were talking about.

When I put my slow over rate fix (dont end a session until 30 overs are bowled and comeback at the scheduled time AND Fine teams that go more than 10 minutes into a break) to Ric Evans (former Test umpire) his response was that umpires and players need the breaks because it's tiring

It's probably why there isnt a big push to extend playing time ...that and Channel Nein having to show the news at 6pm

As Embee said, the finish time has been adjusted to allow for the news. With overtime because of the slow over-rates, nine would switch to news and viewers would complain because we missed out on key events such as hat-tricks, records being broken etc.

Stupid idea.
Day/Night Tests ... phurt ...

Screws up the post-match drinking time in the Tavern Bar.

Why not put f**king roofs over the stadia world wide so we never have to suffer adverse weather interruptions ( just as they've done at poncey Wimbledon ).
It makes far more sense.

I know I know .... try to avoid being the frickin' head teacher all the frickin' time FFS ...

Okay - so they want more people to attend ... more would if they peeked out the window, saw the black clouds but were assured of a full days play becoz the retractable roofs would keep them dry ...

In the lunch and tea breaks, have some nude women on gyrating each other in a ring filled with bath foam ...
or gladiators hacking the sh!t out of each other as an aside to the boredom of test cricket ...

Ah - boredom ... there's the key word!
You honestly think people will flock to Day/Night TEST games if they consider tests to be boring??

Think again.
Build the retractable roofs, bring in the gladiators, shag the foam covered women and boredom will be a thing of the past.

Problem solved.

Move on.
