Aussie forummers- we need your help...
We're going to OZ in December- to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. What's worth seeing in all those locations (apart from England's ritual humiliation in that cricket)?

We= You and your better half?
In Sydney have a wander around Circular Quay and the rocks for the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, as well as some quaint little shops (it's old town Sydney) and markets which are good on weekends. Make a day trip to Coogee and Manly beaches. You also might wanna hire a car and go to the Blue Mountains for a couple of days (about an hour's drive from Sydney)

Sydney - Bridge climb, ferry trip from Circular Quay to Manly, Opera House, various Museums, Taronga Zoo, Blue Mountains, Bondi Beach, zillions of great pubs and, of course, the mighty SCG.

Definitely take a ferry trip from Circular Quay to Manly and head to the beach. While there get yourself some fish and chips.
The ferry ride is a great way to see Sydney Harbour and I consider Manly the best beach in Sydney (or at least the best beach that's not on the fringes).

Darlinghurst does have some of the best nightlife in Sydney, although it does help if you're gay.

Re: Aussie forummers- we need your help...
If you like your pubs there are some good ones in Surry Hills close to the SCG.
My favourite is the Cricketers' Arms. It's an older-style pub with an eclectic mix of people and a good little beer garden. You can do a pub crawl up/down Foveux or Devonshire St if you're getting to the ground from Central Station (although you can only do the Cricketers' Arms after stumps because it doesn't open early for Test).
My recommendation for a place in The Rocks is a joint called Phillip's Foote. It's a cook-your-own steak place, although you can get them to cook it for you if you want and there's a good salad/pasta bar if you're not into the whole meat thing. It's a very relaxing type of pub which is good if you want somewhere to chat with a nice ambiance. Going on a pub crawl through The Rocks is also recommended. The Harbour View and The Glenmore both have good roof-top views of the harbour.

In Brisbane, hire a 4WD, grab an outback tourist map and head north-west out of there as soon as possible.

But the obvious question is "Fried Mars Bar? Why?"

But why would someone visiting Sydney from the old dart want to try a fried Mars bar in Sydney, as a 'Sydney experience' when the artery-clogging culinary experience was invented over there?

What's the cost of boozing over there? I ask because a pub crawl with food requires a re-mortgage these days in the UK, which is why our hostelries are closing at the rate of 5 a day..
