....and bowlers. (Whilst not the most important part - I think the three picked would be a handful in their prime, and on a pacey strip). The WACA for example.

I'd swap Dravid for Laxman.

Does Sehwag fit in?
Or is my over spirited knowledge of his quick runs something to think about?

No role for Jumbo or K Dev?
Are you a bit light on bowling?
Gavaskar

"Sub-continental" was too long so I used Asian was the next alternative. I rarely use "subi".

Gavaskar
Open with Zak and Vaas, Imran on as first change, with Amarnath using his medium pace - right before throwing the ball to Sehwag and then Tendulkar.

Doing my reading, .... Chandrasekhar might be a better bet than Kumble abroad.
Mind you, he would have to bat at 12.
What, you don't want a spinner??

Eliminate a batsman, Pete and throw in a spinner. Just to balance it up. I never really thought about the bowling to be honest. I do agree, it is a little thin and one-dimensional.

I saw Carl Rackemann (of all people) make Zaheer look like an absolute girl at the WACA in the 80s. Admittedly, DKL had softened him up. He was backing away so much that his guard was "square leg ump, please umpie".DJ_Smerk wrote:....and bowlers. Re: Subcontinental players who have succeeded on quick pitches XI
where are the quicker pitches? i would guess aus, sa and maybe the windies till the 90s?
if so, then the team should be
gavaskar
sehwag
dravid
tendulkar
sangakarra
amarnath
dev
imran
wasim
waqar
murali/chandra

Re: Subcontinental players who have succeeded on quick pitches XI
Zaheer came to Australia with a remarkable string of big scores under his belt in the early 80s, but looked decidely ordinary on the lightning Perth deck. Not that many others weren't also made to look poor, but it was his very sooky stepping away to leg that made a man with a great reputation look a bit sad.
Mike Denness (clearly never a "great") was another who stepped away to leg like a 5th Grade batsmen to the real quicks. But then again, Lillee and Thomo would make anyone crap their daks at their peak.
Javed never took a backward step against any bowler in any country.

Re: Subcontinental players who have succeeded on quick pitches XI
Indeed he did, TO. Only one other "incident" in Aus cricket history shocked me more than that fateful day in Perth when the great man DKL carried on like a little girl and was lucky not to wear Javed's bat.
That other incident was the dreaded Headingley 81.

Dravid shouldn't be in this team - his success in Aust has mostly been in Adelaide and Sydney.
And by all means pick Murali in Australian conditions - he only averaged 100 here.

dravid had a match-winning 90-odd in perth in the last series. besides its an amalgamation of performances in 3 countries. not 1

That was the flattest Perth pitch in history.
Any way, I think Dravid's plays with his hands too low to be consistently great on quick pitches.
