Re: Subcontinental players who have succeeded on quick pitches XI
Laxman at 3 will be exposed by a quality seamer like Asif.

Aye, VVS has lovely wristy strokeplay that lends itself well to quicker Aus wickets, ala Mark Waugh.

AYe - if you can flick a waist high ball on off stump through mid wicket you are going to do well.

Less likely
Laxman's technique has been exposed on numerous occasions against the moving ball so i won't fancy his chances against a newish ball on a helpful pitch AGAINST a quality bowler.
# 5 is where he belongs.

I also disagree that Mcgrath is twice the bowler Asif is
Asif in the short career has matched Mcgrath blow for blow, he may NOT be able to sustain it for another 10 years but as of now he has been equally brilliant

laxman's problems lie in swing i.e. countries like england and new zealand. not hard, bouncy pitches like in aus and sa
anwar was good. but he was not better than vvs

there is no denying Laxman's quality but his skills are FAR more suited for the # 5 position.

Thats why its silly to make him bat at 3.
VVS has played some of his most memorable innings at no.3. If not for Dravid who has made more than 9000 test runs at no.3 @ close to 55, we probably won't be even discussing this.

Pisspoor team on most counts. Just 3-4 members justify their selection.DJ_Smerk wrote:....and bowlers. (Whilst not the most important part - I think the three picked would be a handful in their prime, and on a pacey strip). The WACA for example.
1. V Sehwag
2. S Gavaskar
3. R Dravid
4. SR Tendulkar
5. Z Abbas
6. J Miandad
7. M Amarnath
8. I Khan
9. K Sangakkara +
10. WPUJC Vaas
11. Z Khan

Dravid alsohas an outstanding record against SA in SA except the last series given his decline in the last few years. It is the best for any Indian batsman against the likes of Donald & Pollock.JGK wrote:Dravid shouldn't be in this team - his success in Aust has mostly been in Adelaide and Sydney.
And by all means pick Murali in Australian conditions - he only averaged 100 here.

So the best Pakistani & Indian batsmen of all time playing in the same team, account as "pisspoor" Pull the other one! If they were fit [the Indians in the XI] and available for the series against Australia you'd be all over it.

Should have clarified that I was talking about both Tests and ODIs.

Re: Subcontinental players who have succeeded on quick pitches XI
Zaheer Abbas simply doesn't deserve to be there in any such team. Though some allowance could be made for Miandad for his grittiness but he was found wanting on fast pitches, which is the criteria for your selection. Same is true for Sanga.DJ_Smerk wrote:SG wrote:Pisspoor team on most counts. Just 3-4 members justify their selection.DJ_Smerk wrote:....and bowlers. As for bowlers, Vaas and Zaheer look to be joke selections when far more skilled bowlers (from Pak) are available for selection. And you expect a team to be bowled out by operating just 3 bowlers, 2 of whom are Zaheer and Vaas?
