Re: Australia v Sri Lanka, 1st ODI, Melbourne, Nov 3, 2010
It's fair to say that Clarke's not making every post a winner atm.
As for the crowd, it's part of a recent trend for ODI cricket, but in fairness, it's a middle of a working week and the weather's hardly propitious. Even the AFL might struggle if it staged matches in the middle of the day in the middle of the week and sandwiched between Melbourne Cup day and the Oaks.

It's taken a while, the last 100 posts have truly been Pupesque.
The CA site lists the crowd as being just under 20,000, meaning an ODI just took place in Australia's sporting capital with well under 10,000 Australian fans in attendance...
Dead, I tells ya.

As I said though, think of the timing. If you staged Kangas and Freo at 2 this arvo and a paltry crowd turned up would you say that AFL was dead?
According to today's paper, CA was expecting around 15,000.

jeez what a performance from SL
...and from memory AUS have won only 1 out of the last 7 or 8 international games.

This analogy doesn't make sense because North is a total non-factor in the AFL. If anything they cost the AFL more money than they generate. CA, on the other hand, relies almost entirely on the fortunes of the Australian team to generate enough revenue for pumping into the state teams and grass roots cricket. If North folded the AFL would still be fine, possibly even better off. If Mudge successfully got the Aussie team barred from international cricket on racist grounds for not picking Khawaja then CA would be in big trouble.Red wrote:As I said though, think of the timing. Line on cricinfo said that they haven't won a game since July.
Could the fall be even greater than the Windies? Surely they weren't this bad this quick...

This is not good. You're getting the losses in far too early you qunts! Don't use them all up.
Amazing ODI by the sounds of it.

But, very good game, that's two in as many days.

I sense an Aussie cunning plan to fool us that we've only to turn up at the Gabba to win the first test.

It takes some doing for a captain to make Ponting look unclueless.
Even Ritchie bagged him ffs
and is Hastings the new Mick Lewis?

This is the Commonwealth Bank series.
Perhaps the low crowd was a protest at the Commonwealth for raising their rates again despite just recording a 7 billion dollar profit? A lot of CB customers have apparently quit the bank in protest.

As a rule, Australians dont change their banks, regardless of how often the bank bends them over and had their way with them.
A bit like their captains and selectors.

What bright spark thought an ODI series against S/L was a prep for the Ashes?

Hastings is just a little bit out of his depth, I think.
The one obvious positive for Aus was Doherty, who looked the part. Reminds me a little of Vettori, actually.

Well I think he's now become the fourth spinner in the last two weeks to be 'pencilled in' for the first ashes test, following Hauritz, Smith, and O'keefe.
Doherty may well have the gig now- Hauritz is much beleaguered, they're starting to realise Smith is nowhere near ready, and for whatever reason they're not giving O'Keefe a chance to show what he can do.

Okeefe is playing the wozzies in the futures league ...didnt take a wicket in the first innings and hasnt got any of the first 5 to fall in the second ...

Smith is screwed? Really, was he that bad in India (didn't see any of the series)?
Looked very raw but promising.
