Why was there no man of the match presentation?

There was. Mark Nicholas announced Ali cook as the man of the match.

Australia feeling the heat as The Ashes tour travels to Adelaide. Collingwood and Pietersen have fond memories of this venue after scoring big back in the disastrous series of 2006/07.
If there was ever a chance on the tour for these two to "cash in" - now is the time do so. They won't find a more placid pitch after this.

The match where England lost from a seemingly unassailable position? You think that will give them fond memories?DJ_Smerk wrote:Australia feeling the heat as The Ashes tour travels to Adelaide. Well fark me sideways. This searching for positives isn't working is it?
Also, I meant on a personal level. Clearly they will never forget the second innings self-destruction. But you must also remember they have Australia by the scruff of their neck - at present. They won't even be thinking about 2006/07 - much like you haven't been, Vilks.

Do you think John Dyson, who scored a 100 at Headingly in 1981, has fond memories of that place?

No but you tend to get over these things. Australia improved since losing dramatically in 1981 (okay it took 8 years but there is no need for pedantry).
KP and Collingwood aren't going to go there with the negative mindset. I imagine the England camp are realistic but far more positive than before the beginning of the first test. They should remember what they're capable of and follow through with it.
"Fond memories" as a side - definitely not.
"Fond memories" as an individual - very much so.
But as it's a team game, forgetting context is the worst thing players can do. Maybe I shouldn't have used the phrase "fond memories" when recounting the most embarrassing Ashes series defeat in recent history.

Sorry, but that's bollocks. I can guarantee they would have swapped their centuries for ducks to draw or win that game.DJ_Smerk wrote:vilkrang wrote:Do you think John Dyson, who scored a 100 at Headingly in 1981, has fond memories of that place?

As an aside, I have a feeling the next test will be another Adelaide. In fact I am 100% sure of it.

But given the situation of the match, I'm not sure they'd be best pleased with a "duck" - even if it was to bring a a win or draw - as it was not common for players in that England side to push on and score big. KP and Colly wanted to give England a sniff at the impossible. They did that, but then failed to hold it together when they were in the driving seat in the 2nd innings.
I can't speak for players who would prefer ducks over centuries. To say they would prefer a century and a loss, rather than a duck and a win, would just make them out to be red ink hunters.
Who else in that England side would have been able to step up if Colly and KP had scored ducks?

Vilks I feel you're being a bit - not sure of the right word - "obtuse" ? on this one.
You seem to be missing Smerk's point, buddy. You're right of course, Colly would almost certainly swap his double ton for a scratchy 20 had England won. England didn't win of course, but Collys double still stands, and he's not such a prolific bat as to not have some satisfaction from his personal performance ... albeit with the gloss taken off by the team defeat.
I think rather than the capitulation coming to the fore, Colly will go to Adelaide looking to replicate the feeling he had in the middle, how easy the pitch was, how well he was middling the ball etc etc.
If they're going to remember a below par performance it should be the first innings of this game - and how they monstered the Aus attack for 2 days ...... and resolve for it not to happen again. The current attack all together isn't half the bowler either Warne or McGrath were ......

I'm sure they will be going into the match with a positive attitude, and that they will draw upon their successes individually but to say they had "fond memories" is ridiculous.
And Merls, think about what I said and all should become clear .

Fair enough mate - but to be fair to Smerk, revisit his last but one post. He did acknowledge that "fond memories" may not have been the best term ..... I'm thinking you p'raps missed it at the end of his posting.

One where Australia outcraps England, and the other where KP single-handedly wins it for the English. For spectators' sake I'm hoping that doesn't happen in the same match.

Well, if you're the go to man in a crisis, surely you need the crisis in the first place. Might as well make work for himself to underline his value to the team. Farq, that sounded suspiciously Hilditcheque...Red wrote:You can't see them dropping Johnson because Punter has always said that he was his man for a crisis - the go to man.
Unfortunately he's now the man to create the crisis.
What are you taking? It seems you saw it, but forgot you saw it in the space of three lines of type...Red also wrote:Would have liked Smith to replace Nought so that Doherty can go and at least one of Harris or Bollinger can come in.
Hilfenhaus is rumoured to still be suffering from some knee soreness so perhaps ditch him.
If Smith is in, Haddin may even go up to #6, with the all-rounder coming in at 7. Given Nought's paltry offerings, the batting hardly looks lighter.

FFS. So Smith out for Harris from the current 13. All's going well then according to the NSP.
