Still at his age Tendulkar is a far better runner between wickets than Gambhir.

harris is such a dull cricketer, they should give Tahir a chance in the next test

SA too defensive here. Too many fielders in the deep.

SA's fielding standards have really slipped in the last few months, they made a lot of mistakes against Pakistan and now they are repeating the mistakes against India.

Thats it for the day.
India still 220 runs behind SA with 8 wickets in hand.
I'd say even stevens for today's play.

honours even at the end of day 2
for india this and the next wicket will be the crucial partnerships. here's hoping for a massive partnership between these two. dont fancy chasing anything over 150 on this pitch

Have to make the most of the best conditions. And then hope the Bhajji of the last test returns.

A lot ahead. Should never have scored more than 320.

Very slow approach by India in the last session
it SHOULD have cost them BUT they got lucky.

Crucial drop from AB. SA's fielding has really declined. And Prince erred as well. India has the best of the batting conditions and so far is doing a pretty good job even though they had a few let-offs.

Those last 50-odd runs they put on for last wicket will come back to haunt India.

He dropped Gambhir. It was a sharp chance but he usually takes those. Kallis will only bat if necessary in the second innings. Sachin was a bit lucky too, hawkeye showed that the Harris LBW which was turned down had more of the ball hitting leg stump than not.

actually it had more of the ball missing than hitting
close nevertheless, like the kallis decision early in his innings. though a review system would not have helped in either of the cases

80 for the last 2. definitely crucial
though india ran through the middle order. if they asked them on the 2nd morning that you will have the saffies out for 350 and a bit you would probably take it

So on the basis of one dropped catch by arguably the best catcher in world cricket you have concluded that SA's fielding has really declined.
Note: You don't think that the rejigged slip cordon had anything to do with the drop? Or is that too deep for you?

Shows again that you didn't watch the game. Even commentators said it was a fair enough decision from Tauffel. Even UDRS won't have helped SA in that.Sachin was a bit lucky too, hawkeye showed that the Harris LBW which was turned down had more of the ball hitting leg stump than not.

Indeed that was a toughie. Tough even for someone as good as AB.taipan wrote:Red wrote:taipan wrote:Red wrote:Crucial drop from AB. SA's fielding has really declined.

Good point that about rejigged slip cordon. It does make life difficult for the rest of slippers. And Prince has hardly ever fielded in slips in his life, has he?

Yeah a year ago SA had the best cordon in the owrld in Smith, Kallis and AB.
Because of the problems AB was at 2nd slip yesterday. You can clearly see he was distracted by Harris at 1st slip as he went for the catch. It takes some time for these things to settle down.
As I said, far too deep for Red to comprehend.

Not at all, I'm basing the decline in SA's fielding on recent series, not just this one. They dropped quite a few catches against Pakistan in the Middle East and some of their ground fielding was sloppy as well.
The absence of Sooky and Kallis from the slips doesn't help but their fielding is not what it was. Prince also dropped one yesterday which led to the run out. Duminy is a better fielder than him. Parnell is a sharp fielder and good athlete so if he finds his way into the bowling lineup it will improve. Harris is a spud anywhere.
