Australia v England, Second T20, Melbourne, Jan 14, 2011
If the rain stays away, 70K+ expected for it. CA will again be sending payers around the boundaries with buckets for flood relief donations from regular punters. Not sure what the plan is to get dosh off those with the real money in the superboxes.

Not yet, but there's been over an inch of rain across Melbourne in the past 24 hours, more than that to the northwest. It's still raining in Melbourne, and the rain is coming from the northwest.
They might get on for a five5 match.

raining in veritable old testament proportions in Melbourne atm...i'd guess the best part of an inch in the past 2 hours...I have a view of the G from the nursing home and today it is shrouded...even with its wonderful drainage, it would be miraculous if they played tomorrow, let alone tonight

Looking at the radar, the rain should have passed Melbourne by lunchtime.

Rain is gradually easing off. The drainage is good but will have a lot of work to do. The crowd may well be affected because most will assume the game is in jeopardy because of all the rain/flooding etc. A lot of the streets around Melbourne are now flooded. We're definitely being influenced by the northern weather patterns as apart from the unseasonal rain, we've had high levels of humidity for a prolonged period now, as opposed to the dry heat we normally share with Adelaide during our summer.

What about a bowlout? They could set up three extra sets of stumps on each side for Midge, and award him a behind if he is still astray.
A big behind.
A big behind.

Tait might need an extra set of stumps too. Noticed an article today talking about how Australia is investing some hope for the WC in its three scattergun pacemen: Johnson, Lee and Tait. This is fraught with danger on the flat Indian tracks. Surely they'll need some defensive bowlers.
At least the weather looks clear for Sunday's ODI which I'll be attending.
