Re: Australia's world Cup squad
Hmm, did I say a couple of hours? I meant a couple of minutes. The squad has just been announced-
World Cup Squad: Ponting, M.Clarke, Bollinger, Haddin, Hastings, Hauritz, D.Hussey, M.Hussey, Johnson, Lee, Paine, Smith, Tait, Watson, White
I don't know what they see in Hastings. Looks a bog ordinary, bits and pieces cricketer if ever there was one.

Re: Australia's world Cup squad
Jimmy Maher was on Inside Cricket last night and didn't even have Clarke in his squad. He had Podge instead, and when you look at the dumb Vomit's ODD record, Mabo makes sense. Pity Podge is such a qunt and has burned so many bridges.
And I agree with Trev re: Hastings. WTF has he done to deserve a spot?

Who is Hastings? I've only heard of the battle in 1066 and the Scottish rugby brothers...

Re: Australia's world Cup squad
Apparently the theory is that Aus want a defensive bowler to balance an attack of Tait, Lee, and Johnson. Never mind that fact that Hastings goes for 5.3 runs an over in List A cricket.
In that case James Hopes would have been a better option.

Re: Australia's world Cup squad
This squad of 15 is still really only a guide. There's every chance that Ponting and Hussey wont be fit in time, and that Tait and Lee will break down again between now and the start of the tournament.

I think Hopes had his papers stamped at the start of the summer.

Forfeiting the entire WC would have been a better option than Hopes.Henry wrote:James Hopes would have been a better option.

Watson is our best "defensive" bowler.
And, dare I say it, Horrors.

You've gotta love Andrew Hilditch- "Hauritz's ODI record in India is excellent."
Yep- Seven ODIs, four wickets at 70.75.

SQUAD: Ricky Ponting (c), Michael Clarke (vc), Doug Bollinger, Brad Haddin, John Hastings, Nathan Hauritz, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Tim Paine, Steve Smith, Shaun Tait, Shane Watson, Cameron White
May as well hand the Cup back now.

So who would you have gone for, JGK?
I don't mean Hilditch, Nielsen and Ponting .. I mean player selections.

aye. I would have preferred Nannes to Johnson, Hodge to Clarke, Hopes to Bollinger & I'll think of someone instead of Lee.

Sage, Mick. The selected squad is FA chance of defending the Gilly.Mick Sawyer wrote:JGK wrote:SQUAD: Ricky Ponting (c), Michael Clarke (vc), Doug Bollinger, Brad Haddin, John Hastings, Nathan Hauritz, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Tim Paine, Steve Smith, Shaun Tait, Shane Watson, Cameron White

Re: Australia's world Cup squad
I wouldn't say FA chance.
They boys should make it through to the QF stage, as four of the seven in each pool go through. And we'd have to be incredibly pustulent to finish below Canada, Kenya and Zimbabwe.
So provided we stagger through to there, it's then a matter of who we get in the knockout stage. South Africa have to chocke again at some stage of the tournament, so they'd be a good option. And Watson managed to knock England off the other day, so there's hope there too.
And with a bit of luck, the final could be a rain-shortened match, where the toss is the deciding factor.

Nannes yes - prolly for Bolly.
Hodge for D Hussey (who has failed so many times for Australia it isn't funny)
S Marsh for Clarke
Ferguson for Hastings
Tait is a risk but can also win a game single handedly and was almost the bowler of the tournament last WC. You can see the attraction but you'd think they would have given him a run the other night to check his 10 over form.

Re: Australia's world Cup squad
Ten Nooz just announced that Paris has had his hammy operated this arvo on to re-sew it onto the bone and he will VERY LIKELY MISS the Gilly. A bog ordinary side becomes even more so.

Hughes?
They could do worse than Hodge.

Re: Australia's world Cup squad
Hild!ck is far too stubborn to pick Podge now. He was on the Nooz saying that Hastings gives the side more flexibility. To what? Lose more often and more easily?
