I've been arguing for years about drawing a line from somewhere north of Brisbane down to somewhere just west of Melbourne and letting you all get by by yourselves. So your idea has merit in reverse. If you're all going to be ungrateful non-productive bludgers and welfare cases I say we hold a referendum to force this area out of the Commonwealth and cal it the West Island.

of course no politician ...not even Julia ...has big enough balls to try and get this legislation through

Wouldn't that give the deniers & the vested interests that control them something something fresh to carry on with for a while. I note that the Monk is getting warmed up with his doubts about plain packaging.

Deniers?... Last time i looked, tobacco was still legal & given the massive taxes those whose choose to smoke have to pay, i presume that gives them some rights....unless, as Mick seems to think, we have already slipped into an Orwellian 1984 type society.
Actually, come to think of it, we probably have. The Government or its bureaucratic minions are already telling us what to eat, drink, smoke, gamble, how to bring up our kids, how to educate them, how to discipline them (or not), how long we have to work, when we can access our own super funds.....it just goes on & on doesn't it.
Fark this nanny state mentality. Its time people started taking responsibility for their own lives again.

Yeah well you can't deny prohibition works well, doesn't lead to increased social problems, doesn't cause a spike in crime or corruption and certainly doesn't lead to individuals having a chance to make a zillion tax free dollars.

That's all fine so long as those people don't expect the state to pay for their expensive health care or give them welfare when they get emphysema, diabetes, lose their jobs because of gambling or alcohol addictions etc.

As for plain packaging - it's not designed for people to stop smoking, it's designed for people not to start smoking.

Deniers?...

BD, I was referring to those that choose to deny/distort genuine scientific evidence.

i presume that gives them some rights

They have rights, no question.
