Re: The 2011 Trivia Thread (II)
At the risk of provoking the collective wrath of the Forum again, it reminds me of what Churchill once said about the Fuhrer. They must have been very loosely educated at school (at least here) not to know what the alternative name for the mountain-ash is.

Missing bloke is a Saffer who played with Bruce Mitchell and made 236 7 days after his 42 birthday. And no, It's not Jackie Kallis.
nor Ashwell Prince.

Barking up the wrong tree again, Spangs. Obviously a misprint in your Ladybird Book of Trees

Re: The 2011 Trivia Thread (II)
You could have tried googling "mountain ash" whose alternate name is, of course, the rowan tree.
As Skully mentioned, Eric scored 236 in the 3rd Test at Headingley in July 1951 7 days past his 42nd birthday to break a 27yo record set by Sir Jack Hobbs who made 211 against the Saffies at Lord's in 1924 at the age of 41. The tourists' captain, Dudley Nourse, also made a double-hundred in the same series in the 1st Test at Trent Bridge after his 40th birthday. The only other over-40 to have made a double to date is Graham Gooch who scored 210 against the Kiwis in 1994, also at Trent Bridge.
Eric's younger brother by 12 years, Athol, also played in the same side as an off-spinner, The match was also notable for marking Peter May's debut who also topscored on his first outing in England colours with 138. Rowan topscored 11 times in 36 completed innings.

Like squeezing blood out of the proverbial. Try the first bit but qualify with a first name as there was more than one.

I was being facetious and somewhat banal. I googled nothing. They're out to get us all.

Keep the door bolted, shutters closed and see to your missus, Monkey.
But get the booze and stuff in first. Inconvenient when you forget that amidships, with the door bolted and shutters closed.
Persecution is such a waste of a mind.

Not particularly. It is just a virtual model in a miniskirt and jackboots.
Substituted with the production of a less psychotic mind.
