Aye, I'm forcing this one on people - it's called Trevving:
"sh!t, I've only gone and Trevved Khawaja with all my dishing of the plaudits."

F*ck me he's an arrogant little qunt, isn't he? I did not like the cut of his jib one iota - it seems failure hasn't given him an ounce of humility. Hope to hell he fails.
Doubt it though - he faces a pop-gun attack on featherbeds.

You know he is likely to do just well enough against poptarts to stay in the side until the next Ashes series, when proper bowlers like Jimmy and Bessers will pick him apart again.

Aye. A good mate of my youngest brother was the NSW Cricket Development Officer for the Northern area of the State and watched Hughes for a long time. He told my brother that he'd play cricket for Aus about 5 years before he did. He also said he was an arrogant little qunt because he'd always been so much better than anyone else in his age group.Brass Monkey wrote:F*ck me he's an arrogant little qunt, isn't he? Well, it's simple for him then.
He just has to prove it. With some regularity. In different conditions.

So what's the thinking of the Aussie forummers on this Test series.
Easy revival, against a team that was disappointing in England?
Hot potato, on the Lankans' home patch?
Wait and see?

I dont like Hughes that much but I cant see much wrong with what he said
If his (lack of) technique was tinkered with between South Africa and England in 2009 it may have been part of the reason for his failure
At least if he's playing "natural" and fails he doesnt have anyone else to blame
PMSL at his working on his batting for 2 hours a day for two weeks ....every 9 yo kid in Oz does at least that every summer

Wait and see
Not sure what the Lankan bowlers do ...
Not sure if our bowlers can get it right
Probably all draws dominated by SL batting

Sanga and Jaya will have a feast
You'd think we would capitulate to their spinners at least once though

Aye. A Jaya-Sanga batathon is my big fear. And it goes without saying that the Lankan spinners sh!t all over ours.G.Wood wrote:Sanga and Jaya will have a feast

I think Watto, Drunky, Pup and Paris need to each have a massive series with the bat and at least two of the quicks need to have a big series for us not to get flogged.
I'll go with 2-0 to Lanka.

SL Board X1 2/140 after 46 overs.Both wickets to Copeland....I might change to 2 - 0 also.
Re: Sri Lanka v Australia, 1st Test, Galle, 31 Aug - 4 Sep, 2011
Last time we toured Lanka it featured the grouse Test return of the super-grouse TGM, who had a monster series. Good times.

Re: Sri Lanka v Australia, 1st Test, Galle, 31 Aug - 4 Sep, 2011
Looking pretty bleak.
I thought last summer that our batting would go okay, but our bowling was a worry. Turned out everything except Hussey was a worry. So I'm reluctant to express faith in our batsmen again, though I hope Punter has a good series with the monkey off his back.
In theory, Harris, Siddle and Johnson is a potentially decent attack. But in practice, there is a fair chance of Lanka being 3/350 at stumps on day 1 against them.
And as for our slow bowlers ('spinner' is a generous term)... 'nuff said.
We must wind up batting last on a turner at some point in this series, and as some above have said, odds are Lankan spinners will roll us a couple of times.
I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum - but the Kat's absence is just unbelievable. He will almost certainly still be playing in the next Ashes series, and is certainly a better bet right now than Hughes against either decent pace or any form of spin. Smacks of the loopy English decision to axe Robin Smith in favour of Nick Knight/John Crawley in 1996.

So it's come to this, the tour match being jammed into the first Test thread...
Will UK's 0* off 13 be described as the best start to a tour match innings ever?
