Re: Sri Lanka v Australia, 1st Test, Galle, 31 Aug - 4 Sep, 2011
It doesn't really warrant a separate thread though does it? Was half the reason the 3rd Eng/Ind Test made it to 55-60 pages, a few people wanted to laugh at my rabble of shite tonking t'Indians on first innings victory.

Heh, yeah, some joke who has played 11 FC matches at the age of 25 got Sehwag for 8. Bowled them for 350. Was a bit of rain around so numbers 3-8 went on the tonk, just to get the win. Otherwise could've ground them into the dirt. Here if you're interested (I wouldn't be! )

F*ck yeah! We didn't have to bowl to Lone Hero, though.

Does he have something that isn't immediately obvious in his trundled 125kph dollies or is it just a cunning stunt by the Lankans to get him the test side?

Saw him in the Shield Final. He bowls a metronomic McGrath line and length and has the consistent ability to move it both ways off the seam. He's no Pidge but he is 6'5" and there are similarities. He is also known for bowling unchanged 20 over spells. Not the worst thing to have in your Test side - someone who can keep it tight at one end for long periods and nip the odd wicket.

yeah, you'd prefer a military medium who does a little bit and is always in the Avenue of Apprehension to the Midge that has turns up 4 times out of 5

Indeed. And like McGrath, he doesn't seem to have a very stressful bowling action, so no broken backs like Milf and Cot, broken feet, like Rhino, or broken heart muscles, like Midge.
Verdict, get him in there, now.

That ia a satisfying result in itself. The grouse cricket side it produces is quite a nice little bonus

...made against a pop-gun 'Lankan attack but will be enough to get them in the Test side....and Australia's slide will continue.

Was that the one where Mudge said he was something like a military medium pie merchant?

I remember when Pidge was howled down after being selected for Tests very early in his career. He made the mistake of listening to those around him who told him he had to pitch it up and make it swing (which wasn't Pidge's go). He had a mediocre start against NZ and SAf, and then got dropped after the 1st Test of the 94-95 home Ashes series after failing to take a wicket at the Gabba. He came back for the final Test in Perth bowling his short-of-a-length, nipping them either way gear, took 6 wickets, then went to the Caribbean and killed 'em. The rest is tgm history.Big Dog wrote:I can't find the thread, but i predicted two years ago that Copeland would play Test Cricket....and i was howled down as i remember.
Kudos BD, for your early call. I hope it proves correct. In the Shield Final he looked the only Spiv bowler likely to take wickets.
