Heh heh heh, Captain Morgan out for 50-odd. T'only one not crabbing it in this 42 over match so far..... We look a little f*cked.
Re: Ireland v England, Only ODI, Clontarrrrrf 25th Aug 2011
Dicked! 165/6 after 37.4 / 42 overs
All our hopefuls have been under-par to say the least.

Wished i'd put something on Oireland on Betfair last night - was going to after seeing our bowling attack but that's a pretty middling effort even if our 2nd team.
Finn, Dernbach, Woakes, Borthwick, Patel...... cripes

201-8 off 42.
Reckon we'd 90% defend that on Irish wickets with Broad, Jimmah, Swanny & co but my moneys on either K or N O'Brien or Stirling to spank us all over....

Peh, s'Woakes' sorta wicket. He'll pick up sticks like he was in the woods.
Re: Ireland v England, Only ODI, Clontarrrrrf 25th Aug 2011
I'm trying to understand how Stokes's hand can be good enough to field but not good enough to bowl?

On this form I wouldn't risk Trott against the Bannies in the one-dayers. He should be given a rest from international cricket until Sharjah.

Thought Finn bowled decent lines generally tbh....
Anyway, resuming in a few minutes. Ireland need another 87 off 10 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Should piss it really, no?

T22.
Taking the longer view: Good for cricket in Ireland if they win (or go close).
Taking the shorter view: Some shoite performances from England batting. They may be rookies, but not their first game of cricket ffs, swotting around.
Finn hasn't been bad.

Scrambled home by 11 runs. Not much learnt really, none of the noobs came off - guess they'll get a second chance at some point.

Didn't watch the game but the general consensus was that Borthwick was "impressive", despite on the surface not really doing much.
I'm a little confused as to why they're playing Stokes if his hand still isn't right and he can't bowl. Let the lad recover 100% before rushing him back. Surely Bairstow would have been a better option.

15 runs and 1 over for 13 including 2 massive sixes....
Borthwick 'cheaping' 'impressive.
They'll all get another go at some stage, doubt it'll be in the injun series. Though i'd pick Taylor & Stokes over Bopara - who hasn't cut it in 60 ODI's not likely to start now.

More for his pluck with the bat than his one over. Although his first four balls were apparently nice, before the last two were 'O'briened'. Happens.....

You just want to keep him at Chelmo, to win matches for the Eager though barely Legal Eagles.
I'm on to your game, mate.

Borthwick? Could've been out hmm, maybe thrice IIRC. Got tonk, too.
Didn't look bad, though. Fair play to Ireland, plucky and not-too-untalented bunch. As Pierre said, good for Ireland on a whole. They should be considered for at least one ODI by every team touring England, it's their right. And at least 2 ODIs against England, one there and one here - it is our duty.
As for England, I like this side: 2 Japies, a Yarpom, an Irish captain, a ginge, 2 Brasians, a midget, a giant amonst them. Nice. Proper rabble. Plus, I'm sick of seeing the regular's faces. Sick of them.
A word on Morgan, acquitted himself very well IMO. As they said, it wasn't easy, but he held it down nice, talked to his charges a lot, field settings weren't too conventional at times, made a mistake not considering the D/L bowlers maximum overs at the start but generally rotated them well. I like the way he speaks, I like his batting. Proud to have him in the team. However, I did find his runs a little hollow, I don't mind Ireland beating Australia or India, but Ireland beating Ireland felt a little more like cheating.
Finn actually looked like he'd strengthened up quite a bit, whatta bullet arm in the deep too.

Which one? What, you didn't watch it? Just being a presumptuous twat? Ahhhhh, OK, just twattery. I'll move along, nothing to see - the usual.
Re: Ireland v England, Only ODI, Clontarrrrrf 25th Aug 2011
Morgan was honoured to captain England against his home country, glad to be able to do the job, and pleased to see his country continuing to develop, despite this narrow loss.
The Irish players were not only pleased for him, but still look up to him as an example of what an Irish cricketer can achieve, in terms of an international profile, a career and earning potential, hopefully in a situation where the sport is gaining some popularity in Ireland (though as always mainly around Dublin and in The North).
Of course there were those in the crowd who said it was not fair, not right, but there seems overall to have been a general "feelgood factor". And a certain pride in Morgan as a pioneer, helping out the English .... and showing them how to win OD games. He remains Irish, and everyone knows that.
Playing for England is the only way he can play Test cricket in present circumstances.
So I don't really see much of a problem in the present circumstances, Horace.
Unless you believe in pure "proletarian" revolutions denying any bourgeois transitional phase. Mao's Cultural Revolution, "democratic centralism", etc.

Why wasn't Bopara allowed to captain the last test against India?
Bit racist if you ask me.

Well I think it's racist that you're calling a Brit an Indian.
